The Fundraising Manager focuses on long term financial health and stability of the organization.
Philanthropy exists through voluntary action for the common good. It is accomplished through the process of relationship-building with the donor at the centre. Fund development nurtures loyalty and lifetime value, thus facilitating philanthropy.
POSITION OVERVIEW
In conjunction with the Executive Director, provides leadership and direction with respect to fundraising initiatives. Designs and implements appropriate solicitation strategies in support of fundraising campaigns and special events, including prospect identification, clearance and cultivation, and development of briefing materials, presentations and proposals. Develops work plans, and monitors approved fundraising initiatives, evaluating progress and reporting on same to the Executive Director, adjusting strategies and priorities as required. Ensures that all relevant donor and fundraising information and materials are appropriately filed and entered into the fundraising databases.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Signature and Third-Party Events
Plan and develop income generating activities that meet the Annual Operating Goals of Hospice Muskoka and Andy's House. Each activity implemented must set a budget, actual expenses, targets and outcomes
Lead and execute all signature special events organized by the Hospice Muskoka
Develop and execute event plan including timelines, schedules, marketing and budget
Coordinate event logistics including insurance, permits, contracts, with the assistance of staff
Working with the ED and event committee, develop and execute sponsorship solicitation & ticket sales
Provide complete post-event analysis
Support donor relationships related to third party events
Attend third party events on behalf of Hospice Muskoka, recognizing their contribution, and accepting their donations
Develop strategies to grow number of third-party events
Communications and Marketing
Coordinate and provide content for Hospice Muskoka’s annual marketing communications plan (quarterly newsletters, impact report/annual report, posters, social media, press releases, website content, etc.), to support team priorities and deliverables
Assist with presentations (internal and external) and wrap up reports for various campaigns and events; provide presentations to service clubs, raise awareness within the local community about Hospice Muskoka
Support the development and distribution of communications material such as Annual Report, Newsletter and website
Manage Direct Mail program including researching patient stories
Provide data management and quarterly reports
Monitor social media communication strategy to enhance donor relations
Stakeholder Relationships
Develop and maintain effective partnerships with key stakeholders, building awareness and gaining support in order to further the goals and objectives of Hospice Muskoka
Work with staff to gain their cooperation and involvement in campaign initiatives in the areas of prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
Build Tribute program: In Memory, In Honour and In Celebration
Research and submit grant proposals
Develop Donor Recognition plans
Consistently and appropriately record all donor contact and interactions in the database
Planned Giving
Develop philanthropic relationships with existing donors and cultivate new donors through community engagement
Evaluate Hospice Muskoka's fundraising strategy on a quarterly basis at minimum, or more frequently as needed.
Utilize different fundraising tactics within different time horizons independently and in conjunction with one another through direct marketing, special events, annual giving, sponsorship, grants, major gifts, planned giving, and more.
Benchmarking
Ensure accountability and ethical practice.
Engage in effective strategy and planning.
Balance risk and rewards between dependency and cost
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
A university degree or college diploma in business marketing, public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field is required.
Experience
At least three (3) years’ proven experience in marketing roles is required.
Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and registered with the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is required.
Experience within the not-for-profit sector is preferred.
Project Management: 3 years is preferred.
Social media management: 3 years is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Management experience including leadership, administration, supervision of staff and volunteers, program development and evaluation, risk management, and professional conduct.
High level of initiative and creative thinking.
Compliance with Privacy Legislation regarding donor information and record keeping.
Knowledge and experience of the palliative approach to care.
Knowledge of the charitable and healthcare sectors.
Commitment to teamwork and the ability to collaborate effectively.
Strong public speaking and written communications skills.
Positive approach to resident/family care and a demonstrated capacity for empathy.
Computer literacy in data management systems, graphic design, MS Office Suite products, and the Adobe suite of products.
Highly organized, detail oriented and conscious of cost containment practices.
General
Willingness to work flexible hours.
Valid Driver’s Licence and use of a reliable vehicle.
A current, clean Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check.
Is fully vaccinated against/immune to Tuberculosis (two-step Tuberculin testing only), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (whooping cough), Influenza, and COVID-19.
