About the role

POSITION PURPOSE:
Septimatech Group Inc. is looking for a Field Service Technician to join our team! As a Service Technician, you'll ensure high-quality installations, repairs, and ongoing support for our products at customer sites. You'll also play a crucial role in training customers, assisting with maintenance, and troubleshooting our products. As a key contributor to the Service Team, you'll help us continue to deliver exceptional quality and craftsmanship in every project.

This role requires you to be comfortable working with machines and equipment. You'll also need to travel extensively, both nationally and internationally, so you must hold a valid passport and be eligible for unrestricted international travel. This includes fulfilling all necessary visa and work authorization requirements for various countries. A valid G-Class (or equivalent) driver's license is also essential for renting and driving vehicles.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Travel extensively (up to 70% of work time), including internationally and often on short notice, to customer sites for Septimatech product installations.
  • Meet customer's needs during installations, including portraying a good image of Septimatech, solving production problems, and training the customer on product use.
  • Work with Service Supervisor and Customer Service Coordinator to schedule installations at customer sites.
  • Possess product knowledge of all our products and customer applications and identify possible future product portfolio needs.
  • Review the scope of projects to ensure customer needs and expectations are understood, and proper tools and equipment are obtained before starting installations.
  • Provide detailed feedback for root cause analysis to design, sales, or manufacturing teams for corrective action, including drawings, measurements, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Complete all documentation and reports within the scope of the job, including but not limited to, customer supplied product/non-conforming material, service reports, in-field action reports, expense reports, hazard assessment checklists, and customer request forms.
  • Follow standard installation procedures.
  • Troubleshoot problems and modify or fabricate parts as required at the job site, with or without drawings.
  • Schedule and conduct meetings for pre- and post-service work.
  • Provide clear communication with Customers, Engineering, Sales, and other department Leaders.
  • Work in compliance with the company's Health & Safety policies and procedures, the OHSA and Regulations, and any relevant Health & Safety legislation.
  • Take special care at customer plants to meet their safety standards and have appropriate safety equipment in place for the job.
  • Follow Septimatech's safety standards and policies as the minimum requirement in case of no customer safety regulations.
  • Employee would be occasionally required to lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Community college degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; including a minimum of 4 years of related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a trade certification or equivalent with 3- 5 years’ experience in a machining environment.
  • Knowledge and experience with automation, PLC’s and HMI’s is considered an asset.
  • Mechanical/technical aptitude of machinery, packaging or manufacturing processes is an asset.
  • Must be able to manufacture parts on conventional mills or lathes.
  • Must be able to read standard vernier calipers and micrometers in both Imperial and Metric systems.
  • The ability to speak and communicate effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations, to relay technical / mechanical data.
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other software applications.
  • The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. The ability to use CAD software (SolidWorks, Draftsight) to view drawings and product layouts.
  • The ability to write reports and correspondence to relay technical / mechanical data is mandatory. The ability to document installations, field issues, and concerns and record “as built” installations and then create reports and “lessons learned” for engineering updates to customer site files and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills. The ability to adapt and react to ensure a high-quality installation in a time sensitive environment.
  • Experience with on-site risk assessments and evaluations would be beneficial.
