Role Description We’re looking for a proactive and passionate Senior EHS Specialist to lead and elevate our Health, Safety, and Environmental programs across two Richmond-based manufacturing facilities. This role is key to ensuring our operations not only meet but exceed legal and corporate standards. You’ll play a leadership role within our operations team, contributing to legislative reviews and supporting supervisory functions.
Mandate
- Ensure compliance with all local, national, and corporate environmental, health and safety rules and regulations.
- Comply with all local and national food safety and legal requirements.
- Perform all job responsibilities under the strictest consideration of health and safety, food quality and production parameters.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead Safety Culture: Chair the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) and ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Training & Development: Design and deliver engaging safety and environmental training programs. Ensure monthly topics are covered through daily huddles and newsletters.
- Risk Management: Conduct risk assessments for jobs, equipment, and potential hazards. Lead investigations for all incidents and ensure timely corrective actions.
- Environmental Compliance: Manage programs like zero waste to landfill and ensure adherence to all environmental regulations.
- Safety Systems Oversight: Maintain and enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, chemical safety (MSDS), and fire safety protocols.
- Onboarding & Records: Train new employees and contractors on safety, quality, and environmental standards. Maintain accurate training and compliance records.
- Claims & Return-to-Work: Manage WCB claims, liaise with WorkSafeBC, and coordinate return-to-work and modified duty programs.
- Reporting: Generate reports and analyze safety/environmental data to drive continuous improvement.
Requirements:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- 1–3 years of experience in policy administration, legislative compliance, or EHS roles (manufacturing preferred)
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field
- CRSP designation is a strong asset
- Solid knowledge of OH&S legislation, hazard assessment, and return-to-work programs
- Experience working with regulatory bodies like WorkSafeBC
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word)
- Analytical mindset with the ability to connect safety metrics to business impact
- Detail-oriented with strong administrative and organizational skills
- A collaborative spirit and the ability to work independently
