Position Overview
Our client is an expanding and profitable Ontario-based Credit Union seeking an experienced and investment-minded Chief Financial Officer to shepherd its next stage of growth. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer & Board of Directors, the CFO will oversee the Credit Union’s finance, treasury and IT functions. Acting as a strategic partner to the CEO, the CFO will support the introduction of new service lines while prioritizing scaling the Credit Union’s infrastructure and overseeing its funding and regulatory needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on and strategic CPA with 10+ years of finance and capital management experience to leverage their expertise in a regulated lending environment and become a key leader in a growing financial institution.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead the Accounting team in maintaining accurate records and implementing robust internal controls to safeguard the Credit Union’s assets.
- Perform financial analysis of the Credit Union’s operations to ascertain financial performance, liquidity position, cash flow, budget performance, cost control and similar financial activities.
- Monitor and report on interest rate risk and liquidity risk, and assists in the development of strategies to mitigate these risks. Furthermore, ensuring no issues with liquidity levels against policies & regulatory requirements.
- Oversight of Capital adequacy against policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support new investment opportunities and provide recommendations on potential returns and risks.
- Responsible for the Credit Union’s annual budget. Prepare and present monthly financial budgeting reports, including monthly profit and loss, forecast vs. budget, and manage cash flow.
- Advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to regulatory change, current economic issues, and related matters that may impact the financial stability and soundness of the credit union.
- Oversee the Accounting team, providing leadership, mentorship and performance management. Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth to ensure optimal team performance.
Desired Qualifications
- A CPA (or equivalent) with a university degree in finance, business or other related field plus a minimum of six years of progressively responsible work experience; preferably in a regulated lending environment (i.e. bank, credit union, etc).
- Knowledgeable in the underwriting of commercial mortgages/loans.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with ERP / financial systems and implementing new financial systems an asset.
Please note that at present, legal eligibility to work in Canada is a prerequisite for this role.
