Description:

This course is designed to provide an introduction to Biostatistics to graduate students in the Health Sciences. It aims to focus on topics and applications present in Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology. Students will become familiar with fundamental concepts of biostatistical methods and their application to real research problems. The concepts of types of data, descriptive statistics, probability distributions, hypothesis testing, correlation, linear regression and analysis of variance will be covered.

The course will be using the R software for practical examples and practice exercises. Students are expected to learn how to use the R software for simple data analysis using methods covered in the course. Tutorials on how to use the R software will be provided.

Estimated course enrollment: ~ 20 students

Estimated TA support: 1 TA (70 hours)

Class schedule: To be confirmed, 36 hours of contact time

Sessional Lecturer I - $9,457.90
Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term - $9,930.79
Sessional Lecturer II - $10,121.77
Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term - $10,326.62
Sessional Lecturer III - $10,362.76
Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term - $10,570.02

Minimum qualifications: PhD with academic teaching experience.

Description of duties: Prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials. Prepare, carry out and mark assessments of students. Maintain reasonable hours for student contact outside of scheduled contact hours.
