About the role
Europ Assistance Canada, part of Generali Group, is looking for an Accountant to join our Finance team in Canada.
We are searching for an experienced candidate to join our team and contribute to the building of the local operations in Canada. Europ Assistance is a global company, active in over 200 countries and territories in the delivery of our products and services.
The Canadian business unit will strategically focus its efforts on the Travel Insurance industry with the distribution of product offerings and associated service solutions to key stakeholders for their customers traveling abroad or with in Canada.
The position is based in Toronto and the working environment is a mix of in-office and remote, though always in close collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.
Responsibilities Include:
- Organize and analyze account data and general financial reports.
- Support accounting operations including premium collections (accounts receivable), commission payments (accounts payable), regulatory remittances, claims payments and insurance reserves.
- Support month-end close process, including monthly reconciliations, on an accurate and timely basis.
- Check and verify source documents such as claim system, Sales system, Moneris deposits, etc.
- Support bank activity and prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
- Prepare month-end Journal Entries.
- Assist management with ad hoc audit requests, reports, and process and special projects as assigned.
- Ensure the general ledger accounts are materially correct and investigate differences regularly.
- Assist team in analyzing monthly financial results, provide commentary on variances and support the preparation of quarterly/annual reports.
- Help improve the accounting function by streamlining day-to-day processes and adding automation where possible.
Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting (pursuing CPA is a plus)
- Insurance reporting and accounting experience
- 2+ years of professional accounting experience in a similar role
- Expert level Microsoft Excel and experience with SAP an asset
- Ability to self-problem solve and ask for help when needed
- Strong financial acumen, analytical skills, and application of IFRS a plus
- Self-starter, professional, self-confident, and organized
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication and relationship building abilities
- Proven ability to work effectively in fast paced, deadline-oriented environment and identify process improvements and efficiencies
- Grow your experience through learning and development
- Excellent organization, time management and self-management skills
Flexible Language Requirement: French not required.
