Role Summary
We are seeking an ambitious and analytical Junior Commodity Trader to support the procurement and sales of commodities while developing strong supplier and customer relationships. This role provides a hands-on learning experience in commodity trading, offering exposure to market analysis, pricing strategies, and logistics coordination. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, detail-oriented professional who is eager to learn and grow in a fast-paced, competitive trading environment.
Responsibilities
- Support the trading team in executing buying and selling strategies by assisting with price negotiations, contract terms, and market research.
- Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and customers while learning effective trade execution strategies.
- Monitor market trends, supply, and demand fluctuations to identify emerging trading opportunities.
- Assist with inventory management, ensuring efficient product flow and alignment with customer needs.
- Collaborate with logistics, finance, and operations teams to ensure smooth execution of transactions.
- Analyze competitor activities and pricing strategies to provide insights to senior traders.
- Prepare and maintain trading reports, tracking sales, contracts, and performance metrics.
- Attend industry trade shows and networking events to build market knowledge and business relationships.
- Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, assisting in documentation and reporting.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Skills
- Previous experience in commodity trading, sales, procurement, or a related field.
- Degree or Diploma in Global Supply Chain, International Trade, Business, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen interest in market analysis.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage with domestic and international partners.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); experience with ERP/trading software is an asset.
- Self-motivated and eager to learn, with a strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to travel for trade shows, supplier visits, and industry events as needed.
- Multilingual abilities are an asset but not required.
