About the role

Mission:

Reporting to the Director, Accounting Policy and Transaction Accounting, the Manager, Accounting Policy and Transaction Accounting is responsible for ensuring that Revera’s financial statements are International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) compliant. This role will also ensure new IFRS standards are interpreted and accurately applied while ensuring proper documentation on all policies and internal controls over financial reporting at Revera. As part of these responsibilities, the Manager, Accounting Policy will act as the main contact for external auditors and ensure timely completion of all financial statement audits. The Manager will also ensure accounting for complex transactions as well as impairments/valuations are accurately performed and recorded.

Key Outcomes:

  • Annual audits are completed efficiently and by stated deadlines;
  • Complex accounting transactions and annual impairment assessments are reflected accurately and timely in the quarterly/annual financial statements;
  • Annual/quarterly financial statements are compliant with IFRS standards; and
  • Strong internal controls over financial processes are documented and followed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Document policies and procedures that govern the Accounting & Reporting processes;
  • Create and implement a policy and procedure framework to include accounting policies and procedures, process governance, training to promote awareness and understanding and monitoring to verify policy compliance;
  • Act as the primary liaison with external auditors and coordinate the completion of the various audits;
  • Ensure Revera’s reporting is IFRS compliant;
  • Ensure timely completion and review Revera’s fair value financial statements;
  • Provide technical accounting consultation services to assist with policy interpretation and ensure conclusions are documented;
  • Assist the Director, Accounting Policy and Transaction Accounting in ensuring proper accounting for acquisitions/divestitures and other complex accounting transactions as well as related transaction costs, disposition transactions, properties held for sale assessments and impairment considerations;
  • Complete with monthly financial reporting tasks;
  • Review and complete the financial statements note relating to policies and procedures;
  • Uphold and promote the organization’s values and philosophy, relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Brighton’s Code of Conduct; and
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Credentials and Experience:

  • 5 + years of relevant working experience, experience in the real estate or asset management industry is considered an asset;
  • Hold a CPA designation;
  • Experience in application and interpretation of IFRS accounting standards (US GAAP is a plus);
  • Exposure to public company financial reporting;
  • 2 years developing and documenting policies decisions preferred;
  • Experience with accounting and/or enterprise reporting systems, Workday knowledge an asset;
  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel, intermediate levels required in other MS Office applications, knowledge of data analytic tools (PowerBI) is a plus;
  • Strong knowledge of internal controls over financial reporting;
  • Driven and focused on results;
  • Strong organizational skills, detail orientated with proven capability to contribute to varied projects, strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in project management;
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; and
  • Results oriented with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and effectively manage time to successfully meet strict deadlines with quality results.
