We’re hiring a Controller on behalf of a rapidly growing North American Startup in the DTC/Ecom Marketplace space - The company is scaling fast and needs a hands-on, strategic finance leader to help build a strong accounting foundation as they grow.
About the Role:
Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will lead all accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and internal controls. This is a pivotal role for a candidate who thrives in dynamic, high-growth environments and is passionate about building scalable systems from the ground up. The right candidate will be both a technical expert and a business partner, ready to roll up their sleeves and implement best-in-class practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Manage daily accounting operations including A/R, A/P, GL, inventory, and payroll.
- Own the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (GAAP).
- Support investor and lender reporting requirements.
- Partner with FP&A on variance analysis and financial insights.
- Help develop financial models for budgeting and forecasting.
- Ensure appropriate accounting treatment for new revenue streams and business models.
Audit, Compliance & Risk Management
- Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting policies.
- Oversee audit preparation and liaise with external auditors.
- Ensure tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
- Support risk management initiatives, insurance policies, and regulatory filings.
Process & Systems Improvement
- Evaluate and upgrade accounting systems, tools, and reporting infrastructure.
- Lead or support ERP implementation.
- Drive operational efficiency through automation and best practices.
Team Building & Leadership
- Build and lead the accounting function (internal and outsourced resources).
- Foster a culture of financial discipline and operational excellence.
- Partner cross-functionally with marketing, product, and ops teams.
What We’re Looking For:
- 5+ years of progressive finance experience, including 3–5 years in a senior finance leadership role.
- CPA designation required.
- Experience in a fast-paced startup or scale-up environment; eCommerce or marketplace background is a plus.
- Deep understanding of GAAP (and IFRS preferred).
- Strong systems knowledge: Excel, NetSuite, ERP tools, etc.
- Proven ability to lead, scale, and inspire accounting teams.
- Highly analytical with a bias toward action.
