Job Summary

As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Work in a team based environment and be responsible for the supervision and coordination of technical and staffing activities of assigned area.
  • Oversee the quality of technical work performed, participate in recruitment and performance management, and coach and orientate team members.
  • Update and standardize policy and procedure manuals, compile financial and statistical reports, and respond to enquiries.
  • Facilitate and coordinate research and development projects, participate in the management of computerized information systems, and maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Perform technical procedures when required.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Graduate of a recognized training program in Medical Diagnostic Sonography and certified with Sonography Canada or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or be certified with Sonography Canada and have passed the Sonography Canada Skills Assessment (CCSA).
  • A minimum of four (4) years' recent, related experience, including one (1) year supervisory and leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for Medical Imaging practitioners established by the CAMRT and/or other relevant national professional associations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of organization policies, procedures and standards of care, including practice of safe work procedures with modality equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of PACS/Radiology Information Systems, i.e. digital imaging, image archiving and retrieval.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as an effective leader, motivator, facilitator and team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate, facilitate, coach and mentor staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop procedure protocols and manuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote evidence based practice and a culture of creativity and enquiry.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop project plans and implement new projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (orally and in writing) and deal effectively with clients and their families, co-workers, physicians, other health care staff and staff of external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated skill in modality specific techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies.
  • Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
  • Demonstrated computer skills.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. An earlier start date may be arranged if operationally feasible. As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
