About the role
The Canadian College of Performing Arts is currently accepting applications for a part-time faculty position in Singing as part of the Music Department. This position will include weekly one-to-one singing lessons (weekday mornings), lesson contribution to group singing technique classes, and assessment panelist for singing juries. All faculty report directly to the Director of Education. They work in collaboration with a Department Chair and faculty colleagues to deliver the curriculum and program content for students enrolled in the Performing Arts Certificate and Performing Arts Diploma programs. Each faculty works to deliver the learning objectives of a course outline in supporting the overall curriculum of the programs. This is an open posting to anyone interested in teaching in a post-secondary performing arts training institution.
Overview of Primary Duties and Responsibilities
All Faculty will be involved in the following tasks and responsibilities:
- Providing students with instruction (based upon existing curriculum and adhering to the course outline).
- Creating their course Syllabus based on the course outline
- Reporting class attendance and grading.
- Conducting midterm and final evaluations and feedback for students taught.
- Individual guidance of students where appropriate.
- Punctual and conscientious management of classes.
- Collaboration with Department Chair and faculty on progression of courses.
- Collaboration with administration staff on resources and equipment issues.
- Attendance at departmental meetings (monthly)
- Attendance at full faculty meetings (approximately 6 meetings per year).
Qualifications
Key Competencies:
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Ability to teach in the specific discipline of singing technique and repertoire coaching applying both fundamental classical techniques and CCM/Musical Theatre techniques, in-person in Victoria, BC.
- Piano skills required at a fundamental level to accompany technique exercises in lessons. Basic accompaniment skills desired.
- Ability to engage & demonstrate physically in the learning environment, as well as deliver lecture/seminar content.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the current learning profiles of young adults.
- A working understanding of the current trends and practices in the professional performing arts industry, as well as current trends in CCM and Musical theatre style and technique.
- Flexibility to work weekdays or evening depending on the educational schedule.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Critical thinking and collaboration skills.
- Able to function in a dynamic working environment.
- Excellent communication, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to innovate, and explore professional development on an on-going basis.
- Computer skills, including experience with video conferencing software (i.e. Zoom), and the ability to learn and work in the AmpEducator database software.
Education/Experience:
- Portfolio demonstrating high caliber of professional work in their discipline/craft: AND
- A post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree relevant to the subject matter. Candidates will need to demonstrate teaching experience for a minimum of 5 years, experience teaching students 18+yrs (post-secondary), as well as professional development in pedagogic approaches specific to CCM and Musical Theatre (eg Estill Voice Training™, Somatic Voicework™, Complete Vocal Technique™, Voiceworks™)
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Remuneration is built on a tier system, based on the experience and education level of the faculty member. Teaching wage range is $53.58-73.70 per hour.
- All faculty must provide proof of a Criminal Record Check performed within 2 years of hire date, and every subsequent 3 years.
- Schedules are built by the Director of Education with classes Monday – Friday 8:30am-8:30pm.
