About the role

Founded in 1954, Community Living Central York is a non-profit, charitable organization which provides support to people who have an intellectual disability. The organization is under the direction of a volunteer Board of Directors consisting of people who receive support, family members and other members of the community.

In 2024, Community Living Central York was the recipient of the Not-For-Profit of the year at the Central York Chamber of Commerce Business Award, Community Leadership Award and the (ODEN) Disability Employment Service Award for Outstanding Employment Service Provider.

To support people who have an intellectual disability to achieve their personal goals and facilitate relationships, skills and roles which promote people’s effective participation in the typical and valued life of the community.

POSITION (Classification): SUPPORT WORKER

PART TIME POSITION – Supported Independent Living (Health and

Wellness)

REPORTING TO: Manager, Clinical & Community Services

HOURS: 20 hours per week – Days, afternoons and some weekends

HOURLY RATE RANGE: $22.00-$23.49

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • DSW or equivalent, preferably with a minimum of two years experience working with people who

have an intellectual disability

  • Knowledge of community resources and how to access them
  • Available to work flexible hours including days, afternoons and some weekends
  • Must be well organized and task oriented
  • Ability to support behavioural needs and protocols
  • Previous experience supporting people who have mental health diagnosis and dealing with high

anxiety situations

  • Able to assist with planning, organizing, and coordinating recreation programs and special events
  • Must be able to plan and participate in physical activity programs, including swimming
  • Assist with administration duties including, pre and post data collection
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills including written and verbal
  • Current First Aid, CPR and Non-violent Crisis Intervention certificates
  • Proven use of CPI strategies including verbal de-escalation
  • Valid driver’s licence, insurance and reliable vehicle
  • Commitment to providing supports to people in accordance with Social Role Valorization
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening
