Summary
Are you a Compression or Heavy Duty Mechanic with deep engine experience and strong troubleshooting skills, but looking for something different? Maybe you're done with the daily physical wear-and-tear of turning wrenches, and ready to take that experience in a new direction?
At Signet Monitoring & Analysis, a division of Spartan Controls, we help the energy sector reduce emissions and meet regulatory compliance by providing turnkey emissions testing and program management. Based in Red Deer, AB, and serving all of Western Canada.
We’re hiring Emissions Technicians/Analysts to join our growing team, based in Grande Prairie or Fort St. John. You’ll work hands-on in the field at customer sites, using high end CEMS-grade testing equipment and cutting-edge tools not to tear down engines, but to understand how they run, how cleanly they burn, and how to make them perform better for the environment and the bottom line. This role focuses delivering detailed testing reports, minimizing environmental impact, and ensuring regulatory compliance. This position will report to the Emissions Manager, in Red Deer.
Role and Responsibilities
- Travel to and from field locations to test exhaust stack emissions on various types of engines, boilers, and heaters
- Operate emissions testing equipment in compliance with specific emissions regulations
- Connect sampling equipment to exhaust stacks as required by regulations
- Gather all required field data to support emissions testing
- Verify that testing data ensures a successful regulatory test before completion
- Identify the root cause of issues if the unit fails the test and collaborate with the equipment owner to tune the unit for a successful test. If successful testing is not possible, abort testing to minimize the end-user's expense
- Maintain testing equipment and calibration gases to ensure testing quality
- Produce horsepower curves, OEM HP, and BSFC documents (e.g., GERP, WKI, Ariel)
- Compile and complete emissions testing reports with the required level of detail and content
- Review and quality-check co-worker reports and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for enhanced quality and efficiency
- Perform on-site testing services in adherence to recognized industry safety standards
- Follow health and safety policies and other requirements related to the care and operation of equipment
Qualifications and Skills
- Trade certification (e.g., Heavy Duty, Automotive, Millwright) is preferred; Degree or technical diploma in Environmental Science or equivalent experience will also be considered
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Proven customer service skills
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Knowledge and experience with rotating and reciprocating machinery
- Basic knowledge of network and IT systems
- Highly motivated and innovative self-starter
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Willingness to travel extensively and spend significant time on-site; a valid driver’s license is required.
- Entrepreneurial work ethic
Spartan is committed to providing a safe workplace for all employees. This position is classified as safety-sensitive, and as such, the successful candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment alcohol & drug test.
Spartan recognizes that there are many ways in which candidates develop knowledge, abilities, and competencies throughout their careers. We encourage applications from candidates with a variety of backgrounds and we do consider qualifications and competencies that are equivalent to those specifically mentioned above.
