Position Overview The Clinical Midwifery Specialist (CMS) provides leadership in promoting excellence in evidence-based midwifery care to families residing within the Winnipeg Region. The CMS applies advanced knowledge and expertise in obstetrical care, research, statistics and program monitoring and evaluation. The CMS functions as a regional specialist, a consultant, an educator, a researcher and a midwifery leader. The CMS addresses key clinical issues for the midwifery program by: Providing guidance and support to midwives in developing regional clinical practice guidelines and protocols. Sharing clinical expertise with midwives. Providing consultation, education and advice to midwifery staff and management. Participation in evaluation and research initiatives. Providing leadership regarding emerging issues and trends. Acting as a role model in direct client services as a practicing midwife.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in low-risk obstetrics required, preferably as a practicing midwife in Manitoba or Canada.
  • Experience in health and staff education, program planning, development and evaluation required.
  • Experience in a leadership, clinical specialist or equivalent role.
  • Experience in midwifery or other healthcare research.
  • Experience working with multicultural and disadvantaged populations preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Graduate of a midwifery educational program approved by the College of Midwives of Manitoba.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Midwifery or other health related discipline required.
  • Master’s degree in Midwifery or other health discipline preferred.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Neonatal Resuscitation with intubation (NRP) required.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Current Active Practicing Registration with the College of Midwives of Manitoba.
  • Possession of a valid Manitoba class 5 driver’s license.

Physical Requirements

  • Owns or has access to a dependable vehicle that is available for use at all times.
  • Physically capable of performing the duties of the position under varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • This position requires significant lifting and carrying of a variety of clinical and birth equipment as well as the ability to climb stairs with this equipment (i.e., in buildings without elevators).

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment. Please note that an employee is not permitted to hold two or more positions across the WRHA legal entity that combine to equal more than 1.0 EFT. The WRHA legal entity includes Churchill Health Centre, Deer Lodge Centre, Golden West Centennial Lodge, Grace Hospital, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Pan Am Clinic, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA corporate programs, and WRHA community health services.
