About the role

Infrastructure Ontario (IO), an Ontario crown corporation, provides a wide range of services to support the Ontario government’s initiative to modernize and maximize the value of public infrastructure and realty. IO has been recognized domestically and internationally for the way it does business and the success it has had with its major projects, real estate services, infrastructure lending, commercial projects, and development mandate. IO delivers some of the most complex, ambitious commercial and land development solutions for the Province and continues to evolve and expand its capabilities to maximize its public impact and deliver on its vision of creating a connected, modern and competitive Ontario.

Development is responsible for executing strategic land development opportunities that include the delivery of Transit-Oriented Communities (TOC), the use of surplus lands for social purpose outcomes (e.g., attainable housing, health care and long-term care), and the planning and delivery of landmark projects like the redevelopment of Ontario Place.

Position Purpose

Infrastructure Ontario (IO) is currently seeking a dynamic and strategic Senior Advisor, Development (SA) to join our Development division, with a transactions specialization.

IO’s Development division has recently transitioned from a program-based structure to a phased model. This model includes three core phases:

  • Planning
  • Transactions
  • Implementation

As an SA, you will play a key role in shaping Ontario’s future by supporting either planning, transaction or implementation of transformative infrastructure projects.

Senior Advisors may be assigned to any of these phases based on organizational needs and their area of expertise and will work in a client-facing capacity with internal and external consultants, key public and private partners, and subject matter experts to provide advisory services across the full project lifecycle.

The Transactions team is looking for an SA to be responsible for bringing projects to market, managing commercial negotiations, and securing government approvals for major real estate transactions.

What You Will Do

  • Provide strategic and technical support throughout the transaction phase of IO’s development projects.
  • Prepare commercial and technical documentation for open market offerings, including agreements and developer qualification criteria.
  • Engage and coordinate with third-party real estate brokers and internal shared services.
  • Support negotiations with private sector developers and secure commercial/development agreements.
  • Assist in obtaining formal government approvals, including Treasury Board submissions and Ministry briefings.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel, brokers, and technical advisors.
  • Engage with municipalities and community stakeholders to support transaction execution.
  • Produce presentations and briefing materials for senior leadership and government partners.

What We Are Looking For

While this role is currently focused on the Transactions phase, candidates with experience in Planning or Implementation—such as land use approvals, community development, or infrastructure delivery—should also watch for future opportunities that may more directly align w/ your area(s) of specialization, as future opportunities may arise across any or all phases.

Transactions Technical Expertise

  • Familiarity with commercial agreement preparation and development contracts.
  • Experience in real estate deal environments, particularly mixed-use developments.
  • Strong documentation and presentation skills (Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary project teams and advisory coordination.
  • Project management experience in infrastructure or development is an asset.
