JOB SUMMARY

The K4 Teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining a positive, developmentally appropriate classroom that supports the emotional, physical, social, and intellectual growth of each child. This includes implementing structured routines, utilizing classroom materials effectively, and applying positive guidance strategies to meet individual needs. The Teacher will ensure the classroom remains clean, safe, and well-organized to promote a high-quality learning environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and implement both short- and long-term activities that support the physical, cognitive, emotional, language, and social development of children.
  • Prepare and organize daily classroom activities each morning.
  • Meet the individual developmental needs of each child in the program.
  • Collaborate with assistants and volunteers to contribute to weekly and monthly curriculum planning.
  • Coordinate and supervise field trips and enrichment activities.
  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team, including staff and family members, to develop and implement individualized plans for children with special needs.
  • Partner with community resources to ensure coordinated services and support for children and families.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including accident reports, medication records, attendance, time sheets, and curriculum objectives.
  • Keep orderly anecdotal records for use by parents, supervisors, and professionals.
  • Arrange and maintain a safe, healthy, and organized classroom environment that reflects program goals and philosophy.
  • Ensure materials are regularly inspected and replaced when damaged or lost.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all child, family, and staff information.
  • Report any suspected child abuse or neglect to the Supervisor immediately, following proper protocol.
  • Attend all required staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
  • Uphold developmentally appropriate practices and support the implementation of the program’s philosophy.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Desired Education, Knowledge and Experience:

o Child Development Worker Certificate (Level 2)

o Early Childhood Education Certificate.

o Standard First Aid and CPR certification.

o Knowledge of Tsuut’ina Language and Culture.

o 3-5 years of experience with children.

  • Personal Attributes:

o Ability to work under pressure, and with minimal supervision.

o Patient, enthusiastic, creative, and enjoy working with children.

o Ability to react positively to stressful situations.

  • General Employment Requirements:

o Valid Alberta Driver’s License and reliable transportation.

o Criminal Record Check, and Vulnerable Sector Check.

o Oath of Confidentiality.
