About the role

ACTING ACCOUNTING ASSOCIATE - 12 Month Contract

PLASP Child Care Services is a charitable organization operating on a not-for-profit basis, providing high quality early learning and child care, for children up to 12 years of age. PLASP operates programs in more than 240 schools providing before and after school care. PLASP also operates over 38 full-day early learning and child care centres and six EarlyON locations for children from 0 – 6 years.

The Acting Accounting Associate reports to the Accounting Supervisor, and plays a key role in processing and preparing payments, processing payroll, and resolving related discrepancies.

THE POSITION INVOLVES…

The successful candidate will provide a full range of duties, including:

  • Works with Payroll to process program staff payroll.

  • Processes and prepares payments. Resolves discrepancies and responds to inquiries from vendors and internal and external staff.

  • Works with Accounts Receivable Team to process assigned tasks related to accounts receivable when required.

  • Receive, enter and review for correct approval, coding, and process payment for vendor invoices and program related cheque requisitions.

  • Prepares program related cheques in accounting system.

  • Void or process reissuance of checks when necessary.

  • Track receipts for program related cheques, and follow up on missing receipts in a timely manner.

  • Responds to staff inquiries regarding payroll and program funds.

  • Enters hours worked for program staff of assigned groups in AppPayroll from paper or electronic timesheets.

  • Reviews, investigates and completes the validation process in AppPayroll.

  • Files time sheets after the payroll is completed.

  • Prepares payroll reports as needed.

  • Responds to HR enquiries regarding staff earnings for SunLife Benefits/WSIB reporting.

  • Prepares requests for Record of Employment at the end of each pay period.

THE PREFERRED CANDIDATE WILL HAVE…

  • Post-secondary education with a focus on payroll or finance

  • Minimum of 1 years experience in Payroll and Accounts Payable

  • Previous experience with a Professional Payroll System is preferred

  • Understanding of basic accounting concepts

  • Proficient data entry skills and strong attention to detail

  • Microsoft Excel experience.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • High competencies in analytical and data entry abilities, initiative, planning & organizational skills, problem solving abilities, and ability to work under pressure.

PLASP Child Care Services is a community-based, charitable organization operating on a not-for-profit basis, providing accessible, affordable, high quality licensed child care to all children, including those with diverse learning needs.

PLASP provides care for children from 6 weeks to 12 years of age. The organization operates Before and After School programs in over 240 elementary schools located and 28 Early Learning and Child Care Centres located throughout Peel and in Toronto, and five EarlyON centres in Peel Region. Where there is sufficient need, PLASP provides year-round care for school age children by providing programs during P.A. days, the winter holidays, March break and summer, at selected locations.

Established in 1975, PLASP has built a solid reputation as an excellent provider of child care and early childhood education. PLASP believes that families are entitled to the support of high quality child care that is affordable, safe and reliable , giving them the peace of mind to go to work each day.

All PLASP programs are licensed. PLASP hires staff who are Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) who are registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators. All staff must have a valid First Aid Certificate and clear criminal reference check. Staff in our Before and After School Programs have completed at extensive training to program in providing care to school age children that is recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education and the Child Care and Early Years Act. Currently, PLASP employees over 1,500 individuals in our programs and at our head office in Mississauga.

PLASP has been voted the number one provider of child care by the readers of the Mississauga News Newspaper and City Parent Magazine every year since 1998. PLASP annually surveys parents regarding their level of satisfaction with the program and continues to receive an overall satisfaction rate of 94%.
