About the role

Technician Support Specialist (Cardiovascular Technology) - Regular Part Time - Less than 12 Months

Status: Regular Part Time (Less than 12 Months)

Hours: Up to 24 hours/week

Home Campus: IAHS (fully on-site and may include evenings/weekends and split shifts)

Rate of Pay: $26.06 per hour, plus 4% in lieu of vacation

Reporting to the Program Manager, Allied Health, the main role of this position is to provide support and assistance to the students and faculty within the Cardiovascular Technology program’s lab rooms and lab-related courses. This includes assisting faculty in assessing the skill levels of students, following pre-set rubrics/marking schemes, and liaising with faculty to develop together goals and strategies for learners to reach success in CVT lab courses within the curriculum.

This position also allows for constant supervision of students in lab for security and safety measures.

The position will also assist in maintaining the working order of inventory/equipment/software, and related course, lab, and student files. Also follow prescribed set up and clean up (drug/sharps disposal) of the CVT labs for program associated courses and related activities.

What you’ll be doing:

Assist with lab course delivery

Work under the direction of the course professor / instructor and:

  • Assist faculty in demonstrating skills and techniques intended of the lab and its learning outcomes.
  • Re-emphasize previously taught skills and material with students.
  • Act as a resource to students/faculty by facilitating simulations, cases, role-playing, and any other needs as directed by the program or faculty.
  • Assist and supervise students during lab exercises.
  • Assist with evaluation of students based on a predetermined marking scheme.
  • Liaise with faculty to develop together goals and strategies for learners to reach success.
  • Maintain student records of performance.
  • Assist with validation of course exercises, tests, exams and assignments with respect to logistics and currency.

Maintain lab & teaching supplies, equipment & software

In conjunction with the program / lab coordinator and / or course professor / instructor:

  • Routinely monitor supplies and advise program / lab coordinator if any orders are required and/or report any equipment that requires service.
  • Ensure inventory is stored appropriately and maintains count records.
  • Works with program / lab coordinator to ensure computer systems are functional, meet the needs of the course / program and reflect current standards.
  • Disinfects and cleans the equipment and working area; and ensures the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced with sufficient supplies.
  • Assist with sharps / drug disposal.
  • Follow prescribed set-up and clean-up practices of the cardiovascular technology labs for program associated courses and related activities.

  • Other duties as assigned by program / lab coordinator or associate dean.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Graduated a two (2) year post-secondary program in Cardiovascular Technology; Professional Designation: Registered Cardiology Technologist (CSCT certified) in Canada.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in one or more of the following areas. Each technician support specialist’s experience / skill requirement is course-dependent based on software expertise, current clinical practice, current Holter-monitoring, Exercise testing, ECG interpretation, or Cardiac Rehabilitation experience.   • Work experience as a Cardiology Technologist.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • First Aid and CPR training, ACLS would be an asset.
  • Experience with a variety of Holter software including Northeast Monitoring and Norav.
  • Experience with CASE Exercise Stress Testing equipment.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
