Nature of the work
The Francisation Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality French language instruction to adult learners, many of whom are newcomers, job seekers, or individuals integrating into French-speaking professional environments. The teacher fosters the development of oral, written, and comprehension skills necessary for daily life, civic participation, and workplace integration in Quebec or other French-speaking regions. Instruction is aligned with government-recognized frameworks and adapted to the learners' levels, needs, and goals.
Description of tasks
Instruction and Language Development
- Plan and deliver engaging, level-appropriate French language lessons (oral, reading, writing, and listening comprehension)
- Adapt instruction to meet the needs of learners with varying levels of education, linguistic backgrounds, and learning profiles
- Foster the acquisition of functional French for everyday interactions, community participation, and workplace communication
- Incorporate real-life themes such as public services, employment, housing, health, and education
Curriculum and Evaluation
- Follow recognized Francisation curriculum frameworks (e.g., Quebec’s Programme de Francisation, CEFR/Canadian Language Benchmarks where applicable)
- Create lesson plans, educational materials, and formative assessments tailored to learners’ goals and progression
- Evaluate learner progress regularly and provide feedback to support continued development
- Prepare and administer evaluations aligned with program standards (diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments)
Pedagogical Differentiation
- Use varied instructional strategies (e.g., role-plays, conversation circles, digital tools, audio/visual supports) to reach diverse learners
- Differentiate instruction to support learners with limited schooling, literacy challenges, or specific language acquisition needs
Classroom and Administrative Responsibilities

Maintain accurate records of attendance, evaluations, and student progress

Collaborate with program coordinators, case workers, or job integration specialists as needed

Contribute to the development of pedagogical materials and share best practices with colleagues

Support learners in achieving linguistic goals related to social integration and employability
Desired profile

Bachelor’s degree in French as a Second Language (FSL), Applied Linguistics, Education, or related field
-
Teaching certificate (Brevet d’enseignement) or equivalent recognized by provincial education authorities

Recognized Francisation or FSL training certification (e.g., from the Ministry of Immigration or Education) is an asset

Minimum of 2–5 years teaching experience in Francisation, FSL, or language instruction for adults
-
Strong knowledge of language acquisition theory and adult education principles

Familiarity with Francisation program structures and placement levels (e.g., Débutant, Intermédiaire, Avancé)

Skilled at using digital tools and interactive methods to enhance second-language acquisition

Clear, patient, and adaptive communication style suited to multicultural learning environments

Excellent planning, classroom management, and evaluation skills

Ability to foster learner autonomy, confidence, and motivation

Strong organizational skills and attention to administrative details
