About the role

Job Summary:

The Nutrition Program - School Coordinator facilitates nutritious meals for students and manages the school’s nutrition program, ensuring that meal planning, preparation and distribution align with the Canada’s Food Guide and Manitoba Health guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and facilitate the distribution of daily meals (breakfast, lunch, and snacks) for students in accordance with the Canada Food Guide.
  • Oversee all kitchen operations, including menu planning, meal preparation, and the distribution of meals and snacks within the school during school hours.
  • Manage and maintain inventory records for food and supplies, ensuring timely order requests and replenishment based on program needs and student uptake in liaise with the Divisional Nutrition Program Coordinator.
  • Supply and manage snack carts in designated areas to ensure accessibility for students.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment and work areas following established Health and Safety Guidelines.
  • Receive delivery to ensure accurate receipt and verification of food and supply deliveries.
  • Store food items and supplies in accordance with food safety standards and health regulations.
  • Liaise with the Divisional Nutrition Program Coordinator to coordinate centralized food orders and streamline processes for food and supplies.
  • Liaise with Nutrition Coordinators and Facilitators from other schools to share ideas, strategies, and plans to enhance nutrition services in the division.
  • Liaise with school administration to adapt and refine plans to better meet the needs of the student population in the school.
  • Liaise with school community connectors to support the school nutrition program.
  • Cook and prepare meals (breakfast, lunch, and/or snacks) for students to support the school nutrition program.
  • Distribute program-related information and publicity materials to the school community.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and/or experience of working with young people is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is an asset.
  • Food Handler Certificate is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide is an asset.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of working in a food industry/area will be an asset.
  • Upon hire, external applicants must supply a Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Search, and a cleared Child Abuse Registry Check, as conditions of employment.

Skills and abilities

  • Candidate must have Class 5 Driver License.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle is an asset.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Physical demands:

  • Sitting or standing for long periods of time may be required
  • Unpacking delivered goods and may require lifting
  • Purchasing supplies may require walking long distances

Working conditions:

  • Exposure to noise and frequent interruptions with conflicting demands and deadlines
