Reports to: Pre-Construction Director

Job Location: Remote

Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Pre-Construction Director, the Pre-Construction Manager oversees the planning of construction projects before project execution. Working with the estimation and design team, the Pre-Construction Manager is responsible for value engineering and analysis, constructability reviews, contract management, project scheduling, resource allocation, procurement of major equipment. Client, vendor, landowner, and sub-contractor relations.

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or any relevant experience
  • 8+ years of experience in the civil construction industry
  • 5+ years of experience within the solar construction industry
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written in English
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to synthesize information
  • Ability to work autonomously, in a fast-paced environment
  • Team Player and ability to work with remote teams
  • Be available for occasional travel within Canada

What you will do to complete this mission successfully:

General

  • Manage the design consultants to ensure an effective and timely design that meets the construction budget and schedule requirements for the project
  • Ensure that project engineering is in accordance with the documents and contractual requirements.
  • Support the estimation department in choosing design solutions for projects and assist with estimating scope
  • Lead RFP of key item within the scope and/or provide technical support during the RFP stage
  • Review site related project documents to assess construction feasibility and design solutions
  • Manage pre-construction testing required for design optimization
  • Assess pre-construction testing scope and provide cost estimates
  • Communicate the design and construction plan to the execution teamProvide technical support to the execution team in an advisory capacity during construction.

Technical

  • Layout: Partner with client to get legal survey and site constraints properly mapped.
  • Collaborate with Borea internal PV engineers to develop initial layout iterations. Proceed with external EOR to get to 100% locked layout
  • Civil: Partner with external EOR after locked layout to design the Access Roads, Grading Plan, SWMP to IFC. Procure the fence.
  • Piles: Partner with external EOR to design Pre-Construction Testing Program, 90% pile design and IFP spec and procure initial order of array piles.
  • Racking: Conduct RFP with tracker manufacturers. Procure the tracker system after locked layout and partner with Borea legal to issue contract award.
  • Electrical – PV Plant: Coordinate and follow up with Borea’s internal electrical engineers as they work with their EOR to design 100% DBM.
  • Get to 30% electrical design and studies with IFP specs and then follow up with Borea’s internal electrical engineers to ensure they procure the inverters, switches, combiner boxes, all cabling, PV harness, fiber, CAB, weather stations.
  • Electrical – Substation: Coordinate and follow up with Borea’s internal electrical engineers as they work with their EOR to get 30% design.
  • IFP specs. follow up with Borea’s internal electrical engineers to ensure they order all long lead items such as MPT, HV Breaker, P&C building, SST, structural steel, 34.5kv equipment, 138kv equipment, MV breaker, surge arrestor, revenue meter, SCADA. Then take the design all the way to IFC.
  • Substation: Civil and Foundation – Get IFC/IFP design from EOR. Procure pile foundation
  • Contractual: Coordinate and complete exhibit review and negotiation of exhibits with client. Prime Contract is negotiated by the Vice-President with Borea’s legal team.
  • Create, maintain and update the project schedule utilizing Microsoft Project.
  • Support Estimation on pricing support requests.
  • Facilitate transition between estimation and construction to ensure adequate startup alignment and uniformity.
