About the role

Your Opportunity:

The Stollery Children's hospital provides specialized surgical services to patients and their families from central and northern Alberta, as well as across western Canada. Between the Short Stay Surgery Unit and the Trauma and Inpatient Surgery unit, up to 10,000 surgeries are performed every year. 4D2/D3 is the pediatric trauma and inpatient surgery unit that cares for children following traumatic injuries and provides pre- and post-operative care to children undergoing a variety of specialized surgical interventions.

The team on 4D2/D3 works collaboratively with all areas of the Stollery Children's Hospital to ensure provision of the highest quality patient care and to support the professional growth and development of our staff. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will report to the Unit Manager and as such will be an integral member of the Stollery's multidisciplinary team. The LPN will be trained to support other departments within the Stollery Children’s Hospital including other inpatient units (4C2/C3, 4E3.4E4 and SG4) as well as the ENT, Ophthalmology and Surgery Clinics. The LPN will provide direct care and support to pediatric patients, their families, and caregivers while recognizing the values of, and working within a Family Centered Care philosophy.

Description:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.

Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of 2 years' experience in acute care setting. Strong organizational and assessment skills are required with the ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner. Must demonstrate strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills with the capability of adapting to a fast-paced environment. Proven reliability and dependability. Must be able to perform full duties with the ability to work with patients of varying mobility.

Preferred Qualifications:

Pediatric experience an asset. Successfully pass the Stollery Medication Administration Exam with 90%. Successfully complete the Stollery Orientation Program and pass the following: PEARS course (Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition and Stabilization course).
