Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a full-time Educational Assistant in Grades 1-6.
Qualifications:

Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma
-
Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL Level 3 or higher); if no candidates identified with fluency, then will consider intermediate knowledge first (ASL 2) and if no candidate identied with intermediate knowledge, would consider basic (ASL 1). Individuals not fluent must be willing to learn the langage.

Candidates who accept the role and take ASL courses/training on work time may be required to fill ASL roles in the future.
Requirements:

Support students’ growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
-
Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
-
Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and members of a multi-disciplinary team
-
Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
-
Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning
-
Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
-
Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones
-
Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
-
Work and play at student’s physical level of their activities
-
Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs
-
Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required
-
Medical Procedures – such as Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, toileting, or diabetic monitoring
-
Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum
-
Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
-
Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
-
Physical ability to lift and move students
-
Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision
Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & language-related disabilities, etc may be encountered.
The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Reference Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check. FMCSD will contact past and present employers for references. All FMCSD employees are expected to be computer literate; this includes fluency with e-mail, Internet and MS Office.
