About the role
Our client is seeking dedicated Housekeeping & Laundry Aides to join their team at their care home. As a Housekeeping & Laundry Aide, you will play an essential role in maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents, contributing to their health, dignity, and overall quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
Housekeeping Duties
- Clean and sanitize resident rooms, bathrooms, and common areas daily
- Perform deep cleaning tasks according to scheduled rotations
- Dust furniture, clean windows, mirrors, and light fixtures
- Vacuum, sweep, and mop floors using appropriate cleaning methods
- Empty waste containers and ensure proper disposal of garbage and recycling
Laundry Services
- Collect, sort, and process resident personal clothing and facility linens
- Operate commercial washers and dryers following proper procedures
- Treat stains and handle delicate items with appropriate care
- Label and deliver clean laundry to resident rooms
- Maintain accurate inventory of linens and resident clothing
Infection Control & Safety
- Follow strict infection prevention and control protocols
- Use proper cleaning chemicals and disinfectants safely
- Maintain isolation cleaning procedures when required
- Report and document any maintenance or safety concerns
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials
Resident-Centered Care
- Respect resident privacy and dignity while cleaning
- Accommodate resident preferences and schedules when possible
- Communicate respectfully with residents and families
- Report any resident concerns to nursing staff
- Handle resident belongings with care and respect
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous housekeeping or laundry experience an asset
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedures
- Physical ability to perform cleaning duties and lift up to 30 pounds
- Attention to detail and organizational skills
- Clear criminal reference check and vulnerable sector screening
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in healthcare housekeeping
- WHMIS certification
- Knowledge of infection control practices
- Experience with commercial laundry equipment
- Understanding of dementia and elderly care needs
- Second language skills an asset
