  • Respiratory Therapy program graduate from an accredited university/college
  • Member of the College of Respiratory Therapy

POSITION SUMMARY

The Transport team has the specialized expertise and equipment to care for patients as they are transported to the hospital by ambulance, plane, or rotor. The Transport team provides 24/7 service to hospitals in Eastern Ontario, portions of Southern and Northern Ontario as well as Western Quebec. Critical care is initiated by the transport team on arrival at the referring hospital and continued throughout the transport. Members of this team have a shared responsibility in a two-member team for the seamless transfer of Neonatal and Pediatric patients from rural and regional hospitals, tertiary care institutions and remote locations. The Critical Care Transport Respiratory Therapist is recognized as an expert clinician with demonstrated knowledge, skills, critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: advanced patient assessment, stabilization and interventions working under medical directives approved by the Transport Medical Director and functioning as an ambassador of CHEO.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Travel Enthusiast: Embark on a journey across Southeast, Northeast, and Champlain regions (LHINs), utilizing various modes of transportation including land, air (plane and helicopter), to deliver exceptional care wherever it's needed.
  • Team Player: Collaboration is the cornerstone of our approach. Your ability to seamlessly integrate within multidisciplinary teams is pivotal in ensuring comprehensive care for our young patients.
  • Autonomous Practice: Take the lead in managing critical situations, utilizing your expanded skill set which includes but is not limited to inserting chest tubes, administering IV medications, line insertion/maintenance, interpreting diagnostic imaging, and more.
  • Pediatric Expertise: From 22-week gestation to 40 kg, and expanding up to 18 years of age, your experience with pediatric patients is invaluable in delivering tailored care at every stage of development.
