The Department of Clinical Neurosciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Principal Investigator.

The Research Assistant will support MRI and CT research activities, specifically as it relates to the acquisition of magnetic resonance and computerized tomography imaging data.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):

• Under general supervision & direction of the PI, assist in implementing original experiments within the guidelines of the research
• Organize and perform clinical functional MRI studies for the Department of Clinical Neuroscience
• Organize call schedule and payments for on-call EEG technologists required for several ongoing studies
• Reliable and safe operation of all laboratory equipment
• Train other staff and students in the operation of equipment and laboratory protocols
• Keep laboratory and work area clean and safe
• Recommend change to processes or procedures, as required
• Establish and maintain effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community
• Manage own time effectively and ensure PI is kept informed of activities, and progress of work
• Demonstrate strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
• Understanding of safety codes, standards, and systems related to specialization

Qualifications / Requirements:

• Completion of post-secondary education in a related discipline
• Minimum 2 years of research experience
• Must be open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments
• Provide semi-skilled procedures to support the research project
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment
• A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are critical to success
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong organizational and leadership skills are essential
• Experience with patient-oriented research is preferred
• Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS2) is required
