About the role

Pacific Northern Gas Ltd. (PNG), a subsidiary of TriSummit Utilities Inc., owns and operates natural gas transmission and distribution systems in British Columbia’s lower Peace River, west central, and north coast regions. PNG’s western transmission line extends from the Enbridge gas transmission system north of Prince George along the Highway 16 and Highway 37 south corridors to Terrace and then onto the port communities of Kitimat and Prince Rupert, providing transportation and gas services to twelve communities and a number of industrial facilities. In the Province’s northeast, Pacific Northern Gas (N.E.) Ltd. provides gas transmission and distribution service in the Terrace area.

PNG’s Operations department in the Northeast has an immediate opening for a qualified Utilityperson II in Terrace, BC.

WAGE RATE:

  • $47.00 an hour as per current collective agreement, and will increase November 2025 to $48.41

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform duties and responsibilities of a Utilityperson III position.
  • Interpret system plans, maps and construction drawings and prepare as-built drawings.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of the maintenance and operation of all PE fusion equipment.
  • Maintain and operate all forms of tapping, drilling and stop-off equipment used in gas transmission and distribution operations.
  • Survey and check for leaks on the gas transmission and distribution system.
  • Perform Hydrostatic pressure tests.
  • Operate stations manually under the direction of Measurement or Management personnel, to provide the optimum pressures and flow.
  • Maintain valves, valve sites, stations and other facilities, etc.
  • Blow down system valve sections, scrubbers, stations, etc.
  • Abandon and alter mains services and related ancillary facilities.
  • Perform pigging, SCC and pipeline inspection tool evaluations, clock spring applications, etc.
  • Carry out maintenance programs, including valves, valve sites, etc.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in construction and maintenance and have a good working knowledge of all Standard Practice Instructions and Operating and Maintenance Standard Procedures.
  • Apply soil sterilents and herbicides where required after appropriate training.
  • May operate Company equipment given appropriate training and required Licenses for the equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Qualifications of a Utilityperson III.
  • Basic equipment operations and maintenance skills.
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years utility construction/distribution experience.
  • Successful completion of work-related examination as developed by the company.
  • A Red Seal in a related trade would be considered an asset.

This position is within our bargaining unit (IBEW)
