Reporting to the Enterprise Data Office Manager, the Data Architecture Lead has overall data architecture responsibility and will
drive the strategic direction of enterprise data architecture (structured and geospatial data) while leading a team of seasoned data
architects who specialize in Master Data Management, SAP, Azure Data Lakes, and Geospatial data. The Data Architecture Lead
will provide strategic design, principles, vision, and standards for data within Manitoba Hydro in alignment with our Enterprise
Architecture principles. Strong technical expertise, strategic thinking, and communication skills are essential for maturing and
optimizing Manitoba Hydro's data architecture capabilities.

The keys to success for the Data Architecture Lead hinges on developing a strategic vision for data architecture, fostering good Data
Governance, and ensuring alignment with enterprise goals. As a people leader, effective leadership and mentorship of specialized
data architects is crucial, as is the ability to collaborate with stakeholders across the organization. Staying updated on emerging
technologies and industry best practices, and effectively communicating complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical
audiences, are also essential for driving the success of the Enterprise Data Office.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of specialized data architects (structured and geospatial data), providing mentorship, guidance, and professional

development opportunities, ensuring a high level of team performance and accountability.

  • Identify skill gaps within the team and provide opportunities for professional development and training to enhance their

capabilities.

  • Set and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track success and identify improvement areas.
  • Approve and contribute to the overall data architecture, considering data sources, data flows, storage systems, data

integration, and data consumption.

  • Review and contribute to enterprise data architecture strategies that align with the company's business objectives and

regulatory requirements.

  • Support your team in delivering steady business value by removing risks, blockers, and overall delivery impediments.
  • Ensure the team understands the vision and objectives of the organization, business unit, division, and department and how

their backlog and priorities support achieving those objectives.

  • Oversee the design and implementation of data architecture projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Review and contribute to enterprise information architecture standards for data.
  • Improve our agile practice by partnering with coaches, leaders, and team members to review and action metrics, empower

and improve team dynamics and delivery.

  • Oversee the architectural design of technology solutions, utilizing knowledge of defined reference architectures, technology

trends, and implementation experience to translate a business need into a solution blueprint that represents an end-to-end
solution.

  • Approve the logical and physical architecture for a project and ensure it aligns with the standards and reference architectures

defined by the technical domain and enterprise architects; and is aligned with enterprise goals & strategies.

  • Approve recommendations to improve the remote gaps/deficiencies in the current solution portfolio.
  • Lead and facilitate research and assessment of emerging trends and advancements in technologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Recommend new and/or improvements to solution and data architecture principles, standards, and patterns to support

decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • A four-year degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Statistics, Applied mathematics, or other relevant discipline

from a university of recognized standing with a minimum of six years of directly applicable experience,

OR

  • A two-year diploma in Computer Programming Technology from an institute of recognized standing with a minimum of eight

years of directly applicable experience

  • Proven track record of leading data architects through complex project lifecycles in a dynamic business environment.
  • Ability to lead a team effectively, including task delegation, mentorship, and line-of-sight alignment between assigned work

and business unit objectives.

  • Expertise in data architecture, data management, and geospatial data technologies.
  • Experience working with structured and unstructured data
  • Comprehensive understanding of the latest trends in data warehousing, ETL, cloud-based data solutions, and big data

technologies.

  • Experience with traditional and modern data warehousing, data lake, analytics, and reporting technologies such as Azure,

Databricks, Informatica, CI/CD pipelines, PowerBI, and SAP Datasphere.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical

stakeholders.

  • Effective communicator with the ability to articulate complex data concepts to non-technical audiences and proficiency in

overseeing multi-disciplinary squads to foster innovation and collaboration.

  • A "bar-raiser" mentality, driven to motivate and lead teams in a high performing culture talent environment and able to provide

direct, candid feedback to employees.

  • Proven experience in engaging and managing relationships with senior stakeholders, including executives and business

leaders. This involves excellent negotiation and influencing skills

  • A forward-thinking mindset with the ability to drive innovation and adopt emerging technologies that can benefit the

organization.

  • Proficiency in Data Modeling and Database Design.
  • Ability to project manage initiatives effectively and manage several concurrent projects through collaboration across teams in

an agile environment.

  • Well-versed in Agile frameworks and methodologies, with certifications such as Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or SAFe Agilist

(SA) being highly advantageous.

  • Strong team building, organizational change management and people management skills in a matrixed organization.
  • Proven track record of taking ownership and successfully delivering results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Salary Range

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $51.23-$70.19 Hourly,
$98,171.06-$134,498.00 Annually.
