Position Summary The Toronto General Hospital is currently seeking a Clinical Manager for the Operating Room in the Sprott Department of Surgery – the largest surgical program in Canada. Every day, doctors, nurses, scientists and others from different disciplines work together to tackle some of the world’s most complex surgeries and toughest medical problems. Sprott Surgery teams have developed ground-breaking technologies that are now used in hospitals everywhere, and have developed surgical techniques that save countless lives.
Duties As Nurse Manager , your sound judgment and strong leadership abilities will enable you to lead and develop a department focused on delivering quality patient care. Oversee day-to-day operations including education, quality management, staff utilization, financial and human resource management, resolving patient care issues, problems and concerns. You will develop and motivate a cohesive team and will identify and support educational strategies to enhance staff knowledge with respect to professional nursing practices and patient care. You will need to build and continue to maintain dynamic relationships with internal partners and external organizations.
Working in collaboration with the multidisciplinary healthcare teams, you will support and advance the unit, site and corporate strategic priorities. You will specifically take a leadership role in furthering the timely delivery and excellence of patient care services for our program and region. Your creativity and change management skills and experience will ensure success in the identification and operationalization of innovative changes to the care delivery model, enhancing seamless, integrated care and full scope of professional practice. The successful incumbent’s initial alignment will be with Surgical Services. This may evolve over time as required in alignment with department, program or UHN needs.
Qualifications
- Client-focused and able to excel in a diverse, unionized work environment, working in collaboration with physicians and other perioperative leaders to ensure patient care services are delivered effectively and efficiently.
- Completion of a Master’s degree program in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or relevant equivalent.
- Registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses.
- 5 years of experience in Perioperative Services/Operating Room.
- 5 years of Supervisory or Management experience.
- Demonstrated success in leading initiatives, developing policies, inspiring creativity and innovation, and building consensus to achieve set goals in alignment with program and organizational priorities.
- Your organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills will be a prominent part of your success in recognizing, analyzing and resolving problems before and as they arise.
- Your proven ability to work effectively and with composure under pressure/or stressful conditions and to meet multiple and competing deadlines will be critical in this position.
- Demonstrated familiarity with electronic patient health care records including the standardization of documentation, workflows and data analysis.
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills with the ability to analyze and utilize clinical and management data for planning purposes and program development and evaluation.
- Membership with the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, preferred.
