About the role
Alpine Macro, a top-tier macroeconomic research firm serving institutional investors globally, is hiring a Business Development Manager to drive new client acquisition in the asset management sector. This role will be based in Toronto or London and is part of a broader strategic push following Alpine’s acquisition by Oxford Economics.
In this role, you’ll focus on identifying, pitching, and closing new business opportunities with North American asset managers, including mutual funds, hedge funds, pension plans, and sovereign wealth funds. You will represent Alpine’s highly respected macro research to decision-makers ranging from strategists to CIOs.
Key Responsibilities
New Business Acquisition
- Proactively prospect and generate leads through outbound calls, emails, LinkedIn, and referrals
- Qualify leads and conduct discovery to understand prospect needs
- Present and demo Alpine’s macroeconomic research services via Zoom and in-person meetings
- Own the sales process from initial contact to contract close
- Maintain a healthy, well-documented pipeline in Salesforce to meet and exceed monthly/quarterly targets
Industry Insight & Positioning
- Build deep knowledge of macroeconomic themes, market cycles, and how institutional investors use research
- Tailor pitches to align with each firm’s investment strategy and decision-making process
- Attend industry conferences, webinars, and networking events to build relationships and identify opportunities
Internal Coordination
- Liaise with Alpine economists and leadership to support client conversations
- Provide feedback from prospects to Product and Research teams
- Coordinate with Account Management for a smooth handover of new clients
CRM & Reporting
- Diligently track outreach, meetings, pipeline stage, and outcomes in Salesforce
- Share key activity reports and insights with senior leadership
- Keep prospect contact lists updated for targeted event invites and outreach
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Required
- Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Finance, Economics, Business, or related)
- 3–5 years’ proven experience in B2B sales, ideally in financial services or research subscription models
- Track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets
- Comfortable with high volumes of outbound prospecting and follow-ups
- Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a boutique environment
- Familiarity with CRM tools like Salesforce
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of the asset management landscape (North American buy-side)
- Previous experience selling research, data, or subscription services
- An interest in global macroeconomic trends, geopolitics, and markets
