What You'll Be Doing The Investment Banking Associate role at Stifel Canada is both challenging and stimulating. Associates will support a team of senior investment banking professionals and focus on client presentations, industry & company specific research, financial modeling and mentoring Analysts. As the individual’s career progresses, Associates will be expected to take on increased responsibilities including managing live transactions and interacting with clients.

What We're Looking For The Investment Banking Associate will be in charge of supporting the investment banking team with tasks that will include:

  • Participates in deal teams to develop, present, and win mandates for new opportunities;
  • Creates pitch books for clients with respect to financial solutions and participate in their presentation to clients;
  • Integral to the execution of transactions, solving complex problems using rigorous analytical techniques, leading workstreams and driving deliverables, and regularly presenting to senior executives;
  • Analyze detailed corporate and industry financial information, as well as conducting due diligence;
  • Development of financial models related to merger and acquisition transactions, company/asset valuations and capital raises;
  • Create and maintain databases including precedent transactions and market comparables;
  • Develop relationships with new and existing clients;
  • Collaborate cross-functionally within investment banking divisions, working across product groups and regional office locations;
  • Assists in the generation of marketing materials including introductory presentations and confidential information; and
  • Provides direction and feedback to Analysts; accountable for development and mentoring of Analysts

The Successful Candidate Will Possess

  • Strong financial/analytical skills related to corporate finance and securities analysis;
  • Self-motivated/ingredients to become a good business generator;
  • High degree of work ethic and motivation, including a willingness to work long hours in peak periods;
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to work in an open office and team environment;
  • A track record of taking initiative;
  • A demonstrated proficiency in problem solving; and
  • A strong interest in and understanding of financial markets.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum educational credentials should consist of one of an undergraduate degree in business (or equivalent), with a focus on finance;
  • Additional post-secondary education including MBA, or additional professional accreditations or designations such as CFA or CA/CPA are strongly desired; and
  • At a minimum two to four years of full-time work experience in corporate finance, investment banking, accounting or private equity is required.

Systems & Technology

  • Expertise with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint and Word; and
  • Experience with financial markets software and applications including Bloomberg, FactSet and Capital IQ.
