THE ACCOUNTING CO-OP OPPORTUNITY Canadian Turner Construction’s Vancouver office is seeking accounting students for an 8 -12 month Co-Op term. The Accounting Co-Op position requires availability to work on-site or in the head office from Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. The role will involve assisting in providing financial services support, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, reconciliation, and miscellaneous requests. Co-Op student will report directly to an Accountant, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, Finance Manager, or Senior Finance Manager. The goal of the Co-Op term is to provide the student with hands-on experience with the Accounting/Finance department in construction operations, with supervised practice either on-site or in the office.

As an Accounting Co-Op, you will:

  • Assist accountant with billing and accounts receivable.
  • Process accounts payable for vendor invoices and ensure accounts are up to date.
  • Assist with completing monthly close process.
  • Assist with all internal and external audit requests.
  • Facilitate data entry processes and provide administrative duties as related to project and non-project invoices.
  • Help prepare project applications for payment by assisting with compiling all supporting invoice backup.
  • Participate in miscellaneous studies, analysis and reconciliations.
  • Relate and apply knowledge acquired in academic setting to company setting.
  • Provide supervisor with periodic progress reports.
  • Adhere to company work hours, policies, procedures and rules governing professional staff behavior.
  • Maintain professional relationships with company employees, customers and so forth.
  • Prepare for and participate in conferences and other opportunities of learning afforded by company.
  • Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.

Is this the right role for you:

  • Enrolled in college or university offering accredited and credentialed degree programs, recommended majors include but are not limited to Accounting, Finance, or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
  • Must be willing to work standard work week, 40 hours per week in office or on site
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including student leadership, volunteerism, or other community involvement
  • Passionate and willing to learn about overall Turner Accounting/Finance business strategy, culture and core values
  • Assume personal and professional responsibilities for own actions and activities
  • Enthusiastic, proactive, and eager to tackle new projects and ideas, flexible, adaptable and with attention to detail
  • Able to work independently, with some oversight, and in team environment
  • Exceptional organizational skills with ability to document and manage accurate and timely information
  • Must have English language proficiency with professional oral & written communication skills
  • Computer data entry, database and MS Office skills, intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills

Physical Demands & Work Environment: The job requires climbing stairs, using hoists and ladders, and navigating construction areas. Employees will frequently sit, climb, stoop, kneel, use tools, and work with computers. Vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The role involves mobility, occasional travel, and work at various sites. Employees must lift up to 10 pounds regularly and 25 pounds occasionally. Work environments include construction sites with exposure to hazards like mechanical parts, heights, fumes, and noise. Employees must follow safety policies, with accommodations available for disabilities.
