Position Overview
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Real Estate, the Senior Real Estate Consultant is responsible for the oversight and direction of key real estate property matters, which includes the evaluation of real property and recommendation of acceptable terms for property disposition, acquisition and leasing; represents the City in relation to matters pertaining to the acquisition of property for use by various City departments, through negotiation or by expropriation.
Drafts content and prepare By-laws, Agreements of Purchase & Sale, Permission to Enter, Leases/Licenses and other documents for review by the Senior Manager, Real Estate. Responsible for preliminary review of cash-in-lieu of parkland and community benefits charge valuations and amounts. Provides advice/guidance to City departments on various real estate related issues, policies/procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
• College Diploma in Business, Real Estate, or suitable equivalent. Current holder of a recognized professional designation with Appraisal Institute of Canada or International Right of Way designation, in good standing, or suitable equivalent.
• Minimum of seven (7) years' relevant and progressive experience in real estate appraisal, sales, leasing, acquisition and expropriations, preferably in a government/municipal environment.
• Strong knowledge of legislative acts affecting real property, leases, and municipal development approvals and processes in the municipal environment.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, negotiation and communication skills. Excellent report writing abilities.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively with team members.
• Ability to deal effectively with the public and with Council in matters of real estate.
• Knowledge and proficiency in Windows environment using Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in the City’s core and leadership competencies and relevant functional competencies.
• Ability to conduct oneself in a manner bestowing tact and diplomacy in a political environment, and when dealing with sensitive/confidential or controversial topics.
• Possesses a valid Ontario “G” Driver’s License, in good standing, with access to a reliable vehicle for corporate use.
