Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

This Part-Time Academic will be fully responsible for the teaching and grading of one section of MUSC 2000.03 Listening to Music, from January 1 to April 30, 2026. Students will learn about the major time periods in music history, the social roles and basic qualities of prominent genres, and fundamental concepts in music such as melody, harmony, instrument families, etc. Students will additionally learn to communicate about their listening experiences in writing across various genres and styles, such as popular music, film music, and art music.

The main responsibilities of the instructor are preparing and delivering lectures, and designing & marking assessments (exams, written responses, etc.). Depending on the class size, the instructor may also be managing teaching assistants.

The instructor is required to provide a Method of Assessment. This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position

Post-graduate education in music, either complete or in progress; evidence of successful teaching at the university level; ability and willingness to incorporate or perform live musical demonstrations relative to the course subject matter; computer literacy.
