Toronto Mandarin School (TMS) has been providing top-quality Mandarin Chinese language instruction to children, youth, adults, businesses and organizations for the past 18 years. In the beginning, we started with only 23 students. Now we boast 80 teachers, 56 courses, over 1000 students and 8 locations. Our primary goal is to teach our students Putonghua (Standard Mandarin), modern Chinese phonetic system (Hanyu Pinyin) and simplified Chinese characters, using the official language system of Mainland China. Our mission is to share and educate others about the Chinese language and culture, thereby encouraging a broader understanding and appreciation of the world beyond our borders.
Position: Mandarin Teacher (In person, Weekday Afterschool and Weekends Available)
Location: Downtown Toronto & North York (Access to car, preferred)
Job Responsibilities:
For Kids Program: Teach preschool students (1.5-5 years old)
For HM Program: Teach school age students (5 to 17 years old) with non-Mandarin cultural background
For SM Program: Teach school age students (5 to 17 years old) with Mandarin cultural background
For Adult Program: Teach adult students 1vs1 or in group to enhance their Mandarin proficiency according to students’ needs
· Prepare courses for presentation to students according to approved curriculum
· Teach students using a systematic plan of lessons, discussions, audio-visual presentations
· Assign and correct homework
· Prepare, administer and correct tests
· Evaluate the progress of students and discuss results with students and parents
· Identify student's individual learning needs
· Prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help
· Participate in meetings and training workshops if needed
Job Requirements:
· The candidates must be eligible to work in Canada. No sponsor to foreign candidates to move to Canada.
· Teaching degree or certification from Canada or foreign country is a must
· Master degree of Education in Canada is an asset for HM and Adult Program; ECE experience is preferred for Kids program; Teaching Mandarin experience within primary schools in China is preferred for SM program.
· 2+ years of Mandarin teaching experience
· A certificate of Teach Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL) or Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL) is definitely preferred.
· Solid teaching experience in delivering Mandarin classes for a group of students in person
· Fluent in both Mandarin and English
· Sound knowledge of Chinese language and literacy
· Be able to design course outlines and work independently, as well as in a supportive team environment
· Demonstrate a genuine interest in teaching and love working with students from different backgrounds
· Strong computer skills with multimedia teaching experience
· Organized, team spirit, responsible and hard working
