The Opportunity: The Data Science Technical Lead plays a crucial role in supporting the business in developing and maintaining data products throughout their entire lifecycle. This position requires a deep understanding of both data and machine learning to effectively research novel product features through experimentation, prepare data, train models, monitor performance, and enhance both accuracy and recall. The position excels at being an ambassador for data science and Digital Security Services products within the organization and for Symcor’s clients.

This is a hybrid role with requirements to be on site 3 days a week, providing a balance between remote flexibility and in-person collaboration.

About The Role:

• Perform data science research by designing and executing experiments for the purpose of implementing product features built on data that both solve real customer problems and drive business value.
• Working with business leaders to understand the customer challenge and translate them into requirements
• Design and execute an experiment using the scientific method to meet the requirement
• Developing tools/code for the purpose of creating, maintaining, improving and supporting data and models related to product features.
• Develop python code (Leveraging libraries like: Scikit-learn, Pandas, Matplotlib, PyTorch)
• Work with large data sets
• Work with databases (Postgres)
• Develop tools to manage, label, assess large data sets
• Create reports and presentations about data and models to understand the data and model performance for product features
• Create analytics graphics in python to demonstrate outcomes
• Create engaging PowerPoint presentations to explain findings in both the data and models
• Provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external clients on questions related to both data and machine learning based product features.
• Communicate data in a meaningful and insightful way and convey a story that the data is telling

What You Need to Succeed: Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Python education and training. A certificate in Python would be considered an asset.

Experience:

• 6+ years working within Data Science in Analytics, Fraud Detection, or Transaction Monitoring
• Experience with Python and familiarity with data science libraries (e.g., Pandas, Scikit-learn, Matplotlib, PyTorch)
• Experience working with large data sets, ETL, legacy format
• Strong skills in SQL and database management for running complex queries.
• Knowledge of Statistics.

• Ability to perform research and discover novel techniques through experimentation
• High degree of autonomy when supporting product features.
• Independently initiating the development of tools and techniques to support experiments.
• Working with large legacy datasets
• Understanding and improving data quality
• Responding to challenging questions about data and model outcomes
• Experience supporting research, analytics and product projects
• Knowledge or payments processing, banking and transaction processing
• Proven track record of developing and deploying successful, bug free, tested code
• Ability to identify patterns and anomalies in large datasets.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proactive approach to meeting deadlines and delivering results.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with confident presentation abilities
• Ability to communicate data in a meaningful and insightful way while conveying a story
• Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, OneNote)
