About the role

Job Summary:

The Groundskeeper maintains the general appearance, cleanliness and safety of campus grounds, parking lots, entrances, walkways and patios. The Groundskeeper also contributes to small landscape improvement projects. The incumbent attends to seasonal grounds maintenance and landscaping activities on two major campus locations and one satellite location by operating hand and powered tools and equipment. Tasks include litter pick up, garden maintenance (watering, weeding, mulching), lawn maintenance, power blowing, pruning, shearing, edging, tree debris cleanup, snow removal and equipment maintenance.

The Groundskeeper is committed to sustainability, using best practices for plant health care, maintenance and pest control. This role ensures that grounds are pleasant, both visually and operatively, at all times.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate in Landscape Horticulture required from a recognized institution.
  • Two (2) years commercial gardening experience, grounds keeping, and/or green industry, preferably at a large institution.
  • Valid BC Drivers License, and own (or have access to) a vehicle.
  • Strong aptitude for landscape maintenance, soft landscape construction and/or ecology. First Aid training desirable.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks appropriately.
  • The ability to direct and follow a set work schedule with minimum direction required.
  • Experience in the coordinating and monitoring of contracted landscaping services is desirable.
