Position Overview:
We are looking for a proactive, hands-on Group Controller to oversee the financial operations of 15 to 20 automotive dealerships across Ontario . The successful candidate will be an experienced leader who not only ensures accurate financial reporting and internal control compliance but also mentors dealership accounting teams , solves recurring issues at the root cause , and implements standardized processes to improve consistency and performance across the group, Be an excellent Finance and Business leader
Dealership experience is a MUST have
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Leadership & Oversight
- Lead and manage all accounting and financial reporting activities across the dealer group.
- Consolidate and analyze financial statements to identify trends, variances, and opportunities.
- Manage annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, and cash flow planning for all locations.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP/ASPE, internal policies, tax regulations, and audit standards.
Problem Solving & Process Improvement
- Identify recurring financial, operational, or reporting issues across dealerships.
- Analyze root causes and implement scalable process solutions to eliminate reoccurrence.
- Standardize accounting procedures and financial controls across all stores.
- Collaborate with dealership and corporate teams to optimize systems, workflows, and reporting.
Team Development & Mentorship
- Train, mentor, and support Controllers, Accounting Managers, and finance staff at each dealership.
- Build capability across the team to ensure knowledge transfer, succession planning, and retention.
- Develop and roll out onboarding and continuous training programs.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Operational & Strategic Support
- Partner with General Managers, Service Directors, and Fixed Ops teams to support operational goals and profitability.
- Manage floorplan audits, inventory reconciliations, AR/AP health, and working capital.
- Support technology implementations, upgrades, and systems integration efforts as required
Qualifications:
- CPA (CA, CGA, CMA) designation required.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, including 5+ years in a multi-site or group controller role.
- Prior experience in automotive retail or dealership operations is highly preferred.
- Proven track record of identifying problems, implementing sustainable solutions, and improving financial processes.
- Strong team leadership, interpersonal, and mentorship skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel and dealership systems (e.g., CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, DealerTrack).
- Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel across Ontario regular
Salary is negatable, depending on the experience
