About the role
RCEME School is responsible for the training of Regular and Reserve Force Vehicle, Material, Weapon, and Electronic-Optronic Technicians for the Canadian Armed Forces.
Position Overview As part of this project, Calian is currently hiring a Weapons Technician Instructors to support instruction at RCEME on a full-time basis, in an on-site setting at Canadian Forces Base Borden.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction of practical and theoretical knowledge of small arms and armament repair, and the application of approved and safe procedures while performing instruction or repairs on a shop floor or classroom
- Explain how to perform inspection and repairs of in-service small arms and armament weapons systems
- Use advanced tooling such as Bore Gauges BG-10 and BG-20, and other weapon-specific gauges
- Instruct Weapons DP3 or USQs, such as Leopard Tank Family of Vehicles (Leo FoV), M777, or LG1, as required
- Provide theoretical and practical instruction for up to 30 students per class
- Provide instruction individually or in conjunction with other instructors
- Create training aids using supplied boards, equipment, and other multimedia materials
- Monitor and correct unsafe workshop behaviour
- Identify and report student disciplinary and academic problems to the Section Head
- Secure and store training aids in designated areas at the end of each training day
- Review and implement RCEME School DP1 and DP2 instruction policies, including tool control, classroom management, material management, social relationships, and harassment prevention
- Navigate the Defence Learning Network (DLN) to monitor student progress
- Adapt to changing working conditions such as programme changes, unforeseen changes in scheduling, and change to subject matter
- Familiarize and follow ALL policies outlined at RCEME School and the Conduct of Training Manual (CTM) related to the instruction provided to the DP1 and DP2 students
- Maintain classrooms, laboratories, and facilities in a clean, serviceable state, ensuring fire, security and safety regulations are adhered to
- Control, score, and analyze all Enabling Checks (ECs) and Performance Checks (PCs)
- Advise Course Director regarding deficient and unserviceable training aids and facilities
- Provide course training documentation, lesson plans, student assessments and evaluations to the Course Director
- Input entries in Student Record Book (SRB) for the purpose of preparing course reports, counselling, etc.
- Assist the Course Director / Section IC in counselling students on their performance
- Invigilate exams
- Participate in course design and development activities
- Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) as needed
- Other duties as assigned or required
Qualifications
- Must have a minimum of 8 years’ experience as a weapons technician
- Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching adults in the last ten (10) years
Additional Requirements
- You will be required to work on site
- You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Secret level
