Marketing Planning Manager
About the role
This position works closely with the marketing organization and merchandising leaders for all lines of business to develop & build strategic marketing plans to drive business growth. You will be responsible for ensuring that marketing planning incorporates business priorities with consumer behaviour and market trends.
Responsibilities :
- End to end management of the marketing strategy, including planning, monitoring of execution and analysis. This also includes working with the Marketing Manager to align on owned channel strategies, web sites, ecommerce integration, social media and communications.
- Responsible for leading marketing planning for major campaigns and key moments such as Thanksgiving, Stampede, Easter etc., working with content marketing, communications and loyalty to develop and execute integrated marketing plans to build Calgary Co-op’s brand, including all key insights that drive campaign development for all lines of business.
- Lead media buying agency, external creative agencies to build paid media plans, in-store experiences and promotions including brief development for agency partners.
- Manage marketing budget for Media, Production ensuring alignment with overall strategy.
- Responsible for in store marketing (signage, adflow, petro pump screens etc.) including in store strategy and ensuring signage plans align to key campaigns or are supporting key business initiatives within budget.
- Lead Postmortem development for major campaigns working with counterparts (loyalty, content, digital, comms) to develop meaningful postmortems that will help inform future planning.
- Act as the Co-op brand custodian by ensuring all activities comply with brand guidelines and help develop process for brand management.
- Responsible for Calgary Flames and Stampede Sponsorship.
- Assist in the overall management of the marketing team by cultivating relationships with key stakeholders including internal colleagues, external agency partners and relevant community members.
- Identify growth opportunities and new marketing initiatives with alignment to consumer behavior and trends for all lines of business working closely with colleagues to establish priorities and workback schedules.
- Monitor market and share best practices with the rest of the marketing organization.
- Provide leadership and direction while upholding confidentiality in all lines of business including the administration of the policies and procedures for the company.
- Participate in the development and action of yearly competency performance work plan and development action plan.
- Provide leadership in the areas of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and Food Safety including participate in HSE activities, ensuring employees are knowledgeable about and comply with HSE and Food Safety policies, procedures and legislation, assist in identifying unhealthy, unsafe situations and ensure corrective action is taken.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business and/or Marketing management or a related field with at least 5 years’ experience in comparable industries such as packaged goods and food & beverage
- Post-secondary education in Marketing, Communications, Commerce or other relevant field
- Understanding of consumer marketing principles and strong knowledge of retail marketing best practices, with a mind for customer-centric marketing
- Knowledge and expertise in digital channels, in particular email and social media
- Strategic thinker that can see many options and quickly evaluate the best next step
- Experience in senior level communications with ability to plan and manage at both the strategic and operational levels including cross functional peers and internal/external partners
- The ability to collaborate with shared service entities within the organization to achieve the proper execution and results for marketing campaigns
- Competency in leveraging customer insight to creatively introduce forward thinking and dynamic approaches to marketing. Strong analytical skills - ability to turn empirical data into insightful, strategic decisions and tactical team plans
- Outstanding relationship-building skills, true team player. Consistently demonstrating a positive and collaborative approach – comfortable working with various functional groups across the organization
- Understanding of media strategy and planning for both traditional and digital channels including a solid understanding of social media
- Understanding of ecommerce
Desirable Qualifications:
- Retail and /or agency experience
- Project Management certification and / or CAAP accreditation
- Strong understanding of digital technology and digital media
