Job Description
Responsible to to perform various functions related to the pre and post analytical phase of testing in all areas of the core laboratory departments. These functions can include duties related to specimen collection/receipt/accessioning and processing, blood slide preparation, blood product reception/accessioning, data entry, inventory, hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, maintaining /changing solutions/reagents on equipment, preparation of quality control and other materials, loading patient or quality control specimens onto analyzers, equipment maintenance, preparing and shipping specimens for transportation, issuing of blood products. Other duties as required by the Laboratory Manager, Technical Department Lead(s).

Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Association of Ontario (MLPAO) and/or Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS/SCSLM) certification.

2 - 5 years recent experience in a clinical laboratory setting

Experience in equipment maintenance and quality control
-
Knowledge of laboratory computer systems
-
Participates actively in continuing education and applies knowledge where applicable
-
Relevant technical course certification are an asset

Medical Terminology Certificate
-
Familiar with routine automated equipment
-
Good communication and interpersonal skills
-
Experience working with the public
-
Phlebotomy skills are an asset.

Experience in blood smear preparation and staining are an asset

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English

Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position

Satisfactory employment and attendance record required
Additional Information
Status: Permanent Part-time
Hours: Monday - Sunday; All shifts, weekends and holidays (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs)
Salary: $30.490 to $35.160 per hour
