Specific Accountabilities:
- Lead up to 3 weekly study sessions (50 minutes each) using inclusive, collaborative learning strategies taught in PASS Leader training.
- Plan each session with up to 3 hours of paid preparation time per week, using course content and guidance from the PASS Coordinator.
- Attend and participate in the assigned course, taking notes and staying familiar with all course materials.
- Engage in weekly training and leadership development meetings to continuously improve facilitation and mentorship skills.
- Connect regularly with faculty to align PASS sessions with course objectives and expectations.
- Submit session plans and reflect on peer and coordinator feedback for continued improvement.
- Record and report attendance to support program evaluation and student engagement tracking.
- Observe other PASS Leaders’ sessions to expand skillset and support fellow team members.
- Maintain a professional, welcoming presence as a peer leader and role model.
About the Position:
This is a temporary casual / call-in support staff Bargaining Unit position, reporting to the Associate Dean, Academic Services at an hourly rate of 21.54
Under the guidance of the Supplemental Instruction Coordinator, the PASS Leader works as an integral part of the team providing small group tutoring assistance to students. This service provides academic support for students enrolled in high-risk courses and contributes to student success and retention. PASS Leaders must demonstrate subject-matter competency in the supported course (as determined by the faculty) and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. They develop a detailed plan for each study session that follows specific teaching criteria, conferring regularly with the course faculty and Supplemental Instruction (SI) Coordinator. PASS Leaders receive regular training, leadership development, and observation.
The ideal candidates will be first or second year students in the following programs: ICET, CPET, FSQS, BSNL.
Qualifications:
- At minimum, a current College student in their second semester or higher
- Must have previously completed and excelled in the course being supported
- Good academic standing with a GPA of at least 3.5
