About the role

NextStar Energy (NSE) is an innovative joint venture company between LG and Stellantis. It will be Canada's first large-scale lithium-ion battery production plant when it begins production at the Twin Oaks site in Windsor, Ontario. The manufacturing facility will have an annual targeted production capacity in excess of 49 gigawatt hours and will create an estimated 2,500 new jobs in Windsor and the surrounding areas.

Seeking an emotionally intelligent, dynamic and motivated manager to lead a team comprising of salary and hourly employees.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Safety, Environmental Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Manage all health and safety aspects for your area and team ensuring a safe work environment.
  • Comply with Health & Safety and Environmental Policies, maintaining compliance with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
  • Support JH&S meetings and initiatives.
  • Manage and support job risk Assessments within area of responsibility.
  • Lead continuous improvement through safety projects and improvements.
  • Carry out accident investigation activities, ensure near miss reporting.
  • Ensure teams comply with the Lock out Tag out Procedure (where applicable), and adhere to all PPE requirements.
  • Ensure teams comply with all safety standards and policies.
  • Lead 3R5S (cleanliness) processes and procedures within your area of responsibility.

Quality:

  • Manage internal quality within area of responsibility.
  • Manage customer standards and delivery requirements.
  • Identify and Manage quality improvements through KPI's, leading continuous improvement initiatives and completing projects.
  • Ensure standardized work procedures are in place and followed for all work assignments.
  • Ensure adequate process audits are in place to sustain and improve quality.
  • Maintain compliance with IATF standards and practices.

Throughput:

  • Ensure the daily production plan is met.
  • Analyze and Understand losses and coordinate activities to improve performance.
  • Manage and support resources to ensure all production needs are met.
  • Ensure shift handovers and shift reports are completed at the start and end of each shift, as well as updates throughout the shift as required by management.
  • Must be available out of hours to be contacted as required for any significant safety, quality or delivery concerns.
  • Must manage salary coverage, overtime, and vacation requests. Must ensure supervisors are managing hourly coverage, overtime and vacation requests.

Cost:

  • Operate within budget for area of responsibility.
  • Manage headcount and overtime for your department.
  • Conceptualize, lead and champion continuous improvement projects to improve departmental KPI’s.
  • Reduce waste within the production areas, including scrap and consumable waste and usage.

  • Promote a coaching culture, monitoring / mentoring and developing the team to exceed departmental goals.

  • Ensure department training requirements (hourly and salary) are fulfilled, growing our team’s skill set, and ensuring all required documentation is updated.
  • Complete annual appraisals and give regular positive and constructive feedback as required.
  • Responsible to accurately and reliably escalate to manager as needed while problem solving and supporting the team through problem solving.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Ability to work any shift and overtime as required.
  • Excellent organization, written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with various levels of employees within all areas of the Plant internally from team members to Senior Leadership as required.
  • Ability to build effective business relationships with plant leadership and downstream customers.
  • Ability to handle and lead multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Goal oriented self-starter with ability to lead teams.
  • Ability to coach/mentor/develop team members.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Candidates must be able to work using their own initiative, and be able to liaise with other functions and departments at all levels within the company.

Preferred Requirements:

  • 5 or more years’ experience in production supervision in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Technical automotive-related manufacturing experience supporting the operations across various levels and functions.
  • Advanced problem-solving credentials e.g. Green/Black belt in Lean Six Sigma (LSS).
  • Experience with PFMEA, Control Plans & Reaction Plans.

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing/walking for 12 hour shifts.
  • Lifting > 30lbs individually and >50lbs with two-person lift.
  • Must be able to use a radio and cell phone for ongoing communication.
  • Bending, twisting and reaching throughout the shift.
  • With the use of tools, pushing/pulling >100lbs.
