Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Vice President Academic, the Academic Quality Assurance Manager is a senior staff member in the Provost Office and an institution-wide resource. The position is responsible for the oversight of development, management and improvement of academic quality assurance policies and processes, and for supervision of the Academic Quality Assurance team that implements these processes and policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads the Academic Quality Assurance team, including hiring, onboarding, and performance management.

  • Oversees and manages the policies and processes related to academic quality: cyclical reviews of programs, program development and modification, and sunsetting.

  • Collaborates with AQA team members and institutional partners regarding constructing institutional schedule of program and accreditation reviews, coordinating submission and review of information from internal and external bodies.

  • Institutional liaison for the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission (MPHEC) and the Atlantic Advisory Committee on Health Human Resources (AACHHR) regarding their assessment of program proposals prior to implementation; receives and directs all institutional correspondence; identifies and discusses concerns regarding interpretation of guidelines to ensure appropriate adherence by the University.

  • Interprets and directs on MPHEC and AACHHR scope and guidelines for proposed new or modified academic programs.

  • Engages in program development and program review activities as needed.

This position may require work outside of standard working hours.

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree with five to seven years’ related experience in policy, quality assurance, project management, planning, curriculum development and/or administration in a post secondary or similar environment, such as government, regulatory or accrediting body (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).

  • Professional project/program management training and/or extensive experience in planning, managing and coordinating initiatives and familiarity working in a project-driven environment; ability to prioritize and manage concurrent projects.

  • Recognized leadership supervisory experience through management of direct reports.

  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral), including speaking/presenting to large groups in a formal setting; personal persuasiveness and problem solving proficiency.

  • Technological proficiency required, as is the ability to easily adapt to technological change and enhance the effectiveness of all elements of work through the creative, applied use of technology.

Assets

  • Master’s degree in a related field, such as Education, Public Administration.

  • Process improvement or change management knowledge/training.
