Created by dentists, CDSPI is a not-for-profit organization established in 1959 with the sole purpose of arranging programs for the benefit of dentists who are members of CDSPI’s member dental associations. CDSPI helps dentists and dental students achieve and maintain financial well-being by empowering them to protect and grow their wealth with customized financial advice, insurance, and investments.

About the Job:

The Compensation Specialist works closely with the Human Resources Manager and Chief Operating Officer. This role ensures accurate and timely processing of compensation data, supports payroll functions, and assists in the development of competitive compensation strategies. Additionally, the individual helps maintain compliance with compensation-related regulations, addresses employee inquiries, and provides administrative support for performance reviews and salary adjustments.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare and enter payroll transactions accurately and in accordance with established payroll deadlines; balance payroll entries and prepare work schedules for the annual audit.

  2. Process all payroll related journal entries.

  3. Prepare annual EHT return and the annual return for Work Safe BC.

  4. Recommend best practices for payroll related processes; create and maintain controls-based payroll procedure documents.

  5. Maintain and update employee information, such as records of employee attendance, leave and overtime to calculate pay and benefit entitlements using manual or computerized systems.

  6. Produce regular payroll related reports; submit pension contribution remittances; prepare GL uploads for Finance and assist in resolving discrepancies.

  7. Respond and manage employee inquiries regarding individual pay issues, deductions, employment letters, taxable benefits etc.

  8. Process group benefit plan enrollments, changes, and terminations; reconcile invoices and prepare cost breakdown report for Finance; manage the overage dependent process.

  9. Manage employees’ extended leaves and return to work plans.

  10. Supports payroll related year-end activities; reconcile taxable benefit and pension adjustment reports; prepare T4s, T2200s and coordinate the process to obtain updated TD1/TD1X forms.

  11. Administration of CDSPI staff package, Pension Plan, the Staff Group RRSP and Work Safe BC.

  12. Assist in onboarding activities such as requesting and submitting background check with Hire Performance and preparation of Employment Offer Letters.

  13. Other duties as required.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Post-secondary Education in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Payroll, Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • Completed or working towards the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or other Payroll certification is an asset.
  • 1-2 years of full cycle Canadian payroll experience.
  • Previous experience using a payroll system or software, specifically Dayforce.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian payroll requirements.
  • Proficient in Benefits and Payroll Administration.
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Excel and MS Word.
  • High level of integrity with the ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively within a team.
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills with a focus on problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and very strong organizational and prioritization skills.

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid workplace, enabling both office time and work-from-home.
  • Attend CDSPI’s Toronto office as needed in accordance with company policy.
