About the role

POSITION SUMMARY

Reports to: Plant & Equipment Lead

TBM Electrical Supervisor (PLC) oversees the electrical systems and operations of Tunnel Boring Machines on a major infrastructure project in Toronto. TBM Electrical Supervisor (PLC) is responsible for supervising the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all electrical components associated with TBM operations, ensuring compliance with safety standards and project specifications.

The TBM Electrical Supervisor (PLC) key responsibilities are:

  • Supervise and coordinate the work of electrical technicians and subcontractors on TBM systems.
  • Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of TBM electrical systems, including power distribution, control systems, and instrumentation.
  • Ensure all electrical work complies with local codes, safety regulations, and project requirements.
  • Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and ensure optimal TBM performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues in real-time during TBM operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical work, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, civil, and operations teams to ensure seamless TBM functionality.
  • Support procurement and inventory management of electrical components and spare parts.
  • Participate in safety meetings and enforce electrical safety protocols on-site.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed Electrician (Ontario) or equivalent certification.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical supervision, with at least 5 years on TBM or heavy tunneling equipment.
  • Siemens PLC training or certification, particularly in TIA Portal and Simatic Step 7.
  • Experience on large-scale infrastructure or transit tunnel projects.
  • Training in confined space entry, lockout/tagout, and electrical safety.
  • Bilingual (English/French or English/Spanish) is an asset.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong knowledge of TBM electrical systems, PLCs (especially Siemens), VFDs, and high-voltage equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with Siemens Simatic Step 7 and TIA Portal for PLC programming and diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and occupational health and safety regulations is preferred.
  • Proven leadership and team coordination skills.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and underground environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Availability to work shifts, weekends, and respond to emergencies as needed.
