Calgary Transit (CT) plans, designs, operates, maintains, and improves the City's entire public transportation system, including a growing fleet of buses, a Light Rail Transit (LRT) network, and accessible public transportation for people with disabilities. As the Power Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for developing budgets, preventative maintenance systems and processes, systems improvements, analysis and mitigation of systems failures, and maintenance of engineering records of the assigned assets/portfolio. Primary duties include:

Manage LRT Lifecycle Project and Upgrades:

  • Manage and coordinate capital lifecycle
  • Prioritize reinvestment in aging infrastructure to ensure safe and reliable LRT operations.
  • Provide engineering consultation for LRT extension projects, including specification reviews and as-built verification.

Asset Portfolio Oversight & System Reliability:

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting guidance related to assigned power system assets.
  • Conduct root cause analyses of system failures and document corrective actions.
  • Perform life cycle analysis and support data-driven maintenance and renewal strategies.
  • Monitor system performance to ensure optimal safety and service continuity.

Engineering Design and Project Support:

  • Prepare, review, and authenticate designs, specification, and technical reports.
  • Support procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Conduct site surveys, inspections, and quality assurance reviews.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure design compliance, cost accuracy, and schedule adherence.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering and you must have at least 3 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details**.**
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications along with an ability to use data to develop and train models to automate analytical analysis.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with experience in a Transit/Railway operations environment.
  • A proven self-starter able to work individually with limited supervision, and capable of working in small to large focus groups assigned to complex tasks.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings and work within a team environment, excellent technical analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, detail-oriented mindset, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proven ability to perform in a lead capacity on a project.
  • Ability to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to identify systems enhancements and new capabilities, concept demonstrators, and capability business cases.

Compensation: Engineer Level E $93,651 - 141,404 per annum

Days of Work: This position works a 5 day

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
