About the role
Job Description The Assistant Project Manager I is responsible for providing project support of new vessel construction at Seaspan Shipyards. The role assists the project delivery team in coordinating internal and external resources in support of meeting specific program cost, schedule, quality, and safety goals. This includes developing programmatic deliverables and working with stakeholders to track and manage schedule, budget, quality, risk, and safety.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver What You'll Do
- Assists the project management team in coordination and execution of assigned project activities and deliverables, while working closely with internal departments.
- Assists in the generation and review of programmatic deliverables.
- Monitors and helps collate program metrics to measure departmental, supplier and contractor program performance and risks.
- Produces weekly and monthly program reports that measure program performance against established goals and objectives.
- Attends weekly program meetings and presents summary of key program issues to departmental representatives.
- Works with departmental representatives, suppliers, contractors and team members in resolving outstanding program issues.
- Tracks departmental commitments identified during program meetings.
- Monitors program commitments to established schedule in support of maintaining program schedule, cost, safety and quality goals.
- Works with government representatives and regulatory bodies to expedite submissions, reviews and approvals of deliverables that could impact project cost, scope or schedule.
- Meets with suppliers and subcontractors as required validating performance and ensuring equipment and engineering work tasks are completed in support of program goals.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring
- Diploma in relevant discipline. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business preferred.
- Certified Project Management qualification is desirable (e.g. PMP or CAPM).
- 2-5 years of progressively senior experience in the shipbuilding, manufacturing, or construction industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working conjunction with engineering, planning or production in the shipbuilding industry or in a complex manufacturing or construction industry.
- Knowledge of program management and project management.
- Knowledge of program performance metrics including the ability to identify key metrics and assist in the development of performance reports.
- Knowledge of Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS), scheduling systems and resource planning techniques.
- Interpersonal skills including problem solving and analytical skills.
- Communication skills with ability to work with various team members in support of meeting program or project objectives.
- Customer service focus.
- Computer skills including Word/Excel/PowerPoint/MS Project.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing objectives.
- Good judgment and reasoning skills.
- Ability to work with limited direction.

In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
