Part 2. Job Information

Position Title: Assistant Baker

Job Category: Manufacturing/Food Service

Skill Level: Entry Level

Qualification: Completion of Baking and Pastry Arts Program and minimum one year bread making experience required, including basic understanding of preparation, mixing, proofing and handcrafting bread, baguettes, and pastry, working with organic ingredients, loading, and unloading deck ovens. FoodSafe Level 1 certification.

Location of Work: Duncan and Cowichan Bay, British Columbia

Type of Employment: Full Time - Permanent

Job Summary: Assistant Baker assists in production from start (mixing) to finish (baking), including but not limited to ingredients scaling, preparation, dough shaping and decorating. Assistant Baker follows quality assurance, food safe, work safe policies and procedures and inventory rotation practices. Successful candidate will be scheduled to work at the Duncan and Cowichan Bay locations as needed.

Reports To: Operations Manager

Hours of work: Early Morning shift - Monday - Friday

Compensation (starting): $ 18.00 - 21.00

Holidays: 4% of each pay towards vacation pay

Part 3. Duties and Competencies

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Following standard recipes accurately, including measuring ingredients and scaling of dough

2. Assisting with preparation, dough mixing, decorating, and baking

3. Keeping bakery equipment and utensils clean to maximize efficiency

4. Assisting in stock rotation and transfer ingredients as per the direction of senior bakers

5. Operating bakery equipment efficiently and safely, and maintaining it in good order

6. Contributing to continuous improvement.

Other Considerations: Must be able to routinely lift to 50Lb. Must be able to stand, push, pull, squat, bend and reach during long shift. Must be tolerant to heat and flour dust.
