Job Description
The FX Artist is responsible for creating high-quality visual effects under the supervision of the FX Supervisor and CG Supervisor. They combine strong technical skills with an artistic eye to produce effects that align with the visual style of the film.
The artist will be in charge of building setups and running simulations for elements such as fire, smoke, water, particles, etc., within assigned shots.
All effects must be created in accordance with the studio’s internal technical pipeline and the artistic direction defined for the project.
- Create high-quality effects within the given deadlines and budget, in line with the expectations of the FX Supervisor and FX Lead
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
- Identify best practices and suitable technical approaches
- Work closely with production to ensure timely delivery of effects
- Collaborate with the FX Lead to meet the artistic requirements of the project
- Ensure that generated FX are optimized for rendering
- Review FX renders to ensure compliance with approved client setups
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Houdini and Maya (experience with Katana, Arnold, and Nuke is a plus)
- Knowledge of Python or Mel scripting (a plus)
- Understanding of FX techniques: particles, smoke, fire, dust, explosions, fluids
- Strong technical problem-solving skills
- Experience on animated feature films is an asset
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Team player with a proactive, detail-oriented approach and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
